Recently, the former NFL legend Deion Sanders made a massive shift in his coaching career. After his three years long spell with Jackson State University, the great cornerback took the head coach role at the University of Colorado, Boulder. The shift was met with a lot of criticism from people online. However, many also agreed that the NFL Hall of Famer was free to make personal choices. And now, Sanders handpicked the coach who will succeed him at JSU.

T.C. Taylor is a former star player of the JSU. He also became the university’s wide receivers coach. Taylor played an important role in guiding JSU to its insurmountable success this season. The Tigers will name the alum as their head coach.

The institution held several interviews with many candidates. They also interviewed two former NFL players and one offer was extended but eventually declined.

Taylor can face this issue

Although it is anticipated that the transition will go well, the thorny issue is that many starters want to enter the transfer portal to play for Coach Prime. Deion Sanders talked to the team after they crushed Southern University for the 2022 SWAC Championship title. He expressed his wish for Taylor to lead the team. As Sanders spoke, athletic director, Ashley Robinson, seemed to agree with the former NFL player.

It will be interesting to see how the team will perform under Taylor and how things will commence for JSU after Prime Era. For now, the former head coach has moved on to Colorado, where he’s promised to receive a five-year, $29.5 million.

When we worked with the Tigers, Sanders received $1.2 million annually. His base salary was $300,000. It upset many people and HBCU advocates when the former San Francisco 49ers cornerback announced his departure from JSU.

The annual salary of the 55-year-old coach is $5.9 million. This put him in the upper ranks of college coaches who earn very well. However, the athletic director of Colorado confessed they do not have that kind of money yet. A Board of Regents meeting will surely discuss this topic.
