The Albany Empire crisis continues. And this has led to further questions being raised about the debut ownership reign of ex-NFL star Antonio Brown. The back-to-back NAL champions have not been performing at the top of their game, only managing one win out of seven games played this season. Brown was supposed to make his epic comeback to pro football during the 27th May home game against the Fayetteville Mustangs. But fans were left disappointed after he failed to suit up for his team while stating that his physicals did not clear in time for the matchup. Now Brown has recently stated during an interview with WYNT that his comeback will now be on June 17 against the Jacksonville Sharks, as the franchise also plans on organizing a half-time show to celebrate Juneteenth.

With AB managing the crisis at the Albany Empire, he recently announced his next move to restore the franchise’s former glory. And it is a move that will require him to spend some of his $20 million worth on roster upgrades.

Antonio Brown announces recruitment

It just seems like the ex-NFL star cannot get rid of his controversial lifestyle. After infamously leaving the NFL during his Tampa Bay Buccaneers stint with Tom Brady, AB now finds himself being criticized for his ownership debut. Players and coaches have allegedly accused Antonio Brown of not paying salaries and also locking them out of their hotel rooms. This led to a downfall in the morale of this roster, as can be evidently seen from their 1-7 season so far. Now, AB may have a plan ahead to help boost the quality of the team.

In a recent tweet posted by Brown, it seems that the 34-year-old is looking to recruit new talents to play for his team. The tweet reads, “Any more hungry🏈footballers out there🪧up” while tagging the Albany Empire. Maybe the fortunes of the franchise can now be saved with the addition of new talents to the roster. And it looks like Antonio Brown might just loosen his wallet to do just that.

Prior to this announcement, AB also tried to lure 34-year-old QB Cam Newton, who is still a free agent in the NFL.

AB’s Offer to recruit Cam Newton

Cam Newton was a QB who was regarded to be one of the best during his peak. He also earned the NFL MVP back in 2015. But now, considering his age, teams in the NFL do not see the QB to be of the same value he once brought into the league. Brown saw the free agent Newton as an opportunity to bring some relief to his crumbling reign of the Albany Empire. And he went on to state that he would offer Cam Newton $150,000 to suit up for one game with the Empire and throw him a touchdown pass, something that Newton was known for during his prime.

So far, the 34-year-old has not responded to Brown’s request. So maybe the acquisition of new talents might just be the route that might help Antonio Brown in his mission “to make Albany great again.” Do you think the recruitment of players makes sense at the moment?
