Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin who played in the 1990s never shies away from giving his opinions about the NFL. After retiring from the sport, Irvin took a job as an analyst. Now, the Hall of Famer had few words to say about his former team, who thinks the Cowboys are less talented than they were a year ago.

Irvin, talking to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, said, “They have lost talent. They are not a better team talent-wise. This game doesn’t require a skill. It requires will. If a team loses a little bit of skill but gains greater will, they call still do great things. If the Cowboys can take the disappointment of that defeat against San Francisco — beating you at home — if they can take that and internalize it in the offseason and come with less skill and more will and have a better season.”

The Dallas Cowboys have lost many talented players since the last season. They traded WR Amari Cooper to Cleveland Browns and released offensive lineman La’el Collins. The Broncos signed a deal with the former Cowboys DE Randy Gregory, and Cedrick Wilson went to the Dolphins.

According to Irwin, if the Cowboys want success in the upcoming season, then they need a greater will and a sense of togetherness. He also says he wants the players to get hurt as much as the fans did after the 49ers defeated the team in their home. Dallas was the only home team to lose in the first round of the playoffs. 

On August 10, the Cowboys will travel to Denver for a combined practice with the Broncos before their preseason game. The squad will also travel to Los Angeles for a joint practice with the Chargers prior to their preseason game.
