Colin Kaepernick, since his on-field protest against social injustices in the US, has been exiled from the NFL. However, the former 49ers QB almost made his way into the Washington Commanders for a bizarre reason.

In an unusual course of events, Dwayne Haskins missed the final play of a game in 2019. He was playing against the Detroit Lions in his first game in the AFC East. The Commanders beat the Lions 19-16. The victory filled Haskins with joy, and he couldn’t contain himself from taking selfies with the Commanders’ fans.

Missing the victory formation cost Haskins a lot more than he might have anticipated. Consequently, backup QB for the Commanders, Case Keenum, had to take the field for the victory formation instead of Haskins. It happened because the late QB was caught taking a selfie with fans on the cost of missing the final play with his teammates.

Fans criticized Haskins and called for a replacement. The popular opinion of the fans suggested they should get the free agent, Colin Kaepernick, in for Dwayne. However, the deal never saw the light of day and remained in the backyard.

Why is Colin Kaepernick not taken up as a potential option and how did Haskins pass away?

Kaepernick’s story is, at best, complicated. The former 49ers‘ QB took a knee in protest of the national anthem during a 2016 game and continued to stand on his ideals. He believes that showcasing protest against the racial injustices of the system in sport promotes ideas that require urgent attention.

Reflecting on Kaepernick, he is struggling to find a place in any franchise. Only time will tell if any team is willing to give the QB with the most rushing yards in a game, a chance at redemption.
