NFL franchise Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier was sharing his happiness recently, following a piece of wholesome news. It was regarding his brother, Mike Grier, as his appointment as the GM for the NHL franchise San Jose Sharks. The historical appointment made Mike the first black general manager in the NHL.

The Dolphins GM released a statement through the organization, stating, “I am incredibly happy and proud of Mike. The San Jose Sharks organization is getting a man of high character and integrity. He has always been respected on and off the ice by his peers. Mike will bring his work ethic and passion every day to the job. Mike understands the game, with intelligence, experience, and knowledge, to succeed as a GM.

He continued his glowing endorsement by praising the role of their parents and crediting them for their successes. Mike joins the NHL franchise following a 14-year career on the ice with the Edmonton Oilers, Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres, and San Jose. Having played over 1000 games in his professional career, Grier knows the ins and outs of the game. Following a hockey operations advisor role with the New York Rangers in 2021, Grier appears game for this new challenge.

The Miami Dolphins and the San Jose Sharks together create a special kind of history

While Chris and Mike Grier are taking on the challenge of being GM of their respective franchises, it began with their father, Bobby Grier. He was a longtime NFL scout and executive who spent 36 years with two different NFL franchises. The achievement of finding their feet in different sports makes them the first set of brothers to be GMs in two distinct sports.
