Life has a way of throwing unexpected challenges our way. For Damar Hamlin, Buffalo Bills safety, it was a hand dealt as tough as they come. After a near-death experience on the field, Hamlin’s life took an unforeseen turn. Yet, with determination and a newfound love for God, he got back up. 

Now, he has made a miraculous return to the team’s practice squad. After a journey of recovery and resilience, he rejoins his team while taking part in limited drills and exercises. 

Damar Hamlin’s Recovery

During the intense match between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, a devastating incident took place. The Bills’ safety suddenly collapsed on the field after tackling Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. Medical staff rushed to the field, providing nearly 20 minutes of intense medical attention before restoring his heartbeat. However, the game was suspended as he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. 

Hamlin’s incredible resilience and determination were evident throughout his recovery. After just three and a half months, he was back on his feet. He was photographed working out with the team. The 25-year-old’s miraculous recovery has strengthened his belief in the power of God. Recently, as he returned to the field, he expressed his gratitude to God in a heartfelt Instagram post.

“God you walked these steps before me, to meet me here & to tell me that everything will be just fine. My faith is stronger than any doubt, any panic or any fear. When I’m down & feel defeated give me the strength to stand tall & keep pushing to carry out your mission. Cover me in all these moments God. Every breath I take is filled with your strength and your guidance. It’s not easy, but I know it will all be worth it 1 day at a time. I know you got my back. This is a letter to you & you only.. thank you”.

Hamlin’s return to the field marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life: one dedicated to inspiring young athletes and sharing the message of Christ. Not long ago, he teamed up with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) to participate in a ‘Fields of Faith’ event. For Hamlin, the event was a chance to give back and express gratitude for the second chance at life he received.

From Near-Death to NFL Resurgence

Hamlin is set to make a triumphant return to the football field. Head coach Sean McDermott announced that the star athlete will be a “full go” during the team’s upcoming training camp at St. John Fisher University.

With his health fully cleared, Hamlin is now ready to take the field once again. The head coach declared that the team is behind him “100-percent“. 

“He’s in a great headspace to come back and make his return,” stated Bills general manager Beane.
