The debate between the sterling quarterbacks from the 2018 NFL Draft, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield seems to be never-ending. It is exactly the kind of competency that they show, never-ending. Baker Mayfield has been a little higher on the podium for the last three years, but this year Darnold may have something up his sleeve.

The 3-0 unbeaten haul by Sam Darnold has been a remarkable start to the season for the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers have achieved this streak for the first time since 2015, the year they won the Super Bowl. Darnold’s seamless victorious streak may lead others to rethink the debate once again.

Skip Bayless still prefers Baker Mayfield

For a unit that was predicted to undergo a rebuilding slide as they revamped their roster, especially the spot of the quarterback, came to be a surprise for everyone after Darnold started producing such results. Mayfield struggled to get the win against the Chiefs in the season starter, but regained prestige in the second-week clash against the Texans.

However, recently sports columnist and commentator Skip Bayless took to Twitter to express his take on the Mayfield-Darnold debate and said, “I’ll still take Baker Mayfield over Sam Darnold any day or night.”

Skip’s view on the debate can be agreed upon though, as Mayfield completely beats Darnold in the stats game over the course of three years. Mayfield has tossed 11,649 yards and 76 touchdowns with 45 interceptions, resulting in a 62.5% completion rate.

Darnold on the other hand has 8,895 yards, 48 touchdowns and 40 interceptions. He’s completed 60.5% of his passes. Mayfield outperforms Darnold in QB rate as well, with 89.6 to 80.2. However, with the likes of a new and more complementing coach in the Panthers, Darnold does seem to rise high this season.
