The 2019 season was a tough one for Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. It was their first season under head coach Matt LaFleur and they took some time to adjust to his new coaching methods. As the year progressed, the likes of A-Rod, Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, and others did show signs of promise.

After a rather peculiar offseason in 2020, LaFleur will hope that his team can transition quickly before the season starts in September. The addition of highly rated running back AJ Dillon and versatile tight end Josiah Deguara will give LaFleur a few more options going forward.

Packers OC Nathaniel Hackett had some special praise reserved for the franchise quarterback. Hackett said that Rodgers has ’embraced’ Matt LaFleur’s system heading into the 2020 season.
“I’m really excited about everyone we have on this team and Aaron is too. Aaron is awesome to be around and to work with and he’s been an absolute pleasure to be around this year,” Hackett said on a Zoom call.
Admitting that the play action game was a point of focus, he said, “We know it’s something that we want to do. Aaron’s really embraced it and he’s enjoying it and you can see some of those things start to develop. Being in the second year in a system is so much better for everybody.”
Hackett also said that the team is now beginning to pick up on the terminology that LaFleur has been using. This will help streamline offensive play-calls in the huddle. He added, “They know that when they hear this one word, that’s what we’re trying to accomplish, this is where the quarterback is trying to go with the ball, that’s where everybody needs to be spatially across the field. That’s allowed us to expand some of the things we want to do in the offense and it’s just got to keep advancing.”
After a shaky start, Rodgers went on to have a decent season with the Packers in 2020. He led the Wisconsin-based franchise to the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. However, they suffered a loss against Kyle Shanahan’s well-oiled machine in that game. Rodgers will hope to make up for that when the Packers take on the Minnesota Vikings in the opening game of their 2020 campaign.
