The Philadelphia Eagles were soaring in the skies this season. While they were undefeated for 8 games, their luck finally ran out, or one could say that misfortune struck them. Following their match-up with the Washington Commanders, the Eagles fell on the sword and tasted defeat for the first time.

And to add controversy to the mix, referees missed an important face mask call that could have turned the tide of the game. But the NFL has acknowledged the mistake and fined the perpetrator for his actions.

The NFL has imposed a $10,609 fine on the Washington linebacker Jamin Davis. While his stop was crucial for his team as it forced a turnover to get back the ball, he grabbed the facemask of Eagles’ tight end Dallas Goedert.

In the process of bringing the TE down, the LB injured his rival. Davis has currently sidelined Goedert with a shoulder injury following the tackle. And while the officials missed the call on the field, the NFL intervened and penalized the player.

The 9th game of the season for the Eagles was all set for an exciting end. After an early 4th quarter TD, the score was 23-21, with Washington leading the game. However, Taylor Heinicke was quick to turn the ball over with an interception. Giving Jalen Hurts and Philadelphia a chance to establish a lead. With the Commanders‘ fans sweating over the momentum of the game, a miracle occurred. The defense stripped the ball from Goedert after a forced fumble.

But what sparked a roar in the ground was the referees missing a face mask call on the same play. In spite of a clear foul, no penalty flag landed on the field. And after a check on the validity of the fumble, the visitors scored another field goal to go 5 points ahead.

Commanders forced a lot of turnovers

In spite of the missed call, many fans knew that the Eagles blew the game on their own. The birds racked up a total of 4 turnovers. Out of which 3 came in the 4th quarter alone. Even after getting the ball back after the field goal, there was another fumble by the eagles where Watkins made a catch deep into the rival territory but had the ball punched out his hands by a Washington safety.

Following the return of possession to the Eagles, in the dying minutes of the game, a lateral pass was picked off the turf for a return TD to end the game at 32-21. Finally, putting a stop to the undefeated season for the team from Philadelphia.
