With Jim Harbaugh leaving for the Los Angeles Chargers after taking some of the key coaching staff members with him, another Michigan coach is departing. RB coach Mike Hart will not return to coach next season for personal reasons. The Michigan football legend coached the Wolverines for three seasons from 2021 to 2023.

Under Hart’s assistance, the program only lost three games and only one in the regular season, making him a significant contributor to shaping a championship culture. With his departure, new HC Sherrone Moore must take the reins to find a suitable replacement to coach the RBs. Here are three potential replacements that Moore might haul into U-M.

Top 3 potential replacements for Mike Hart

Mike Hart leaving Michigan is a massive blow because of his solid ability to recruit talents and develop players. However, it might be good for the program to settle on one of these coaches to serve as the new RB coach.

Denard Robinson, Assistant DPP, Michigan

If Sherrone Moore were to choose the replacement from Michigan’s staff, perhaps the favorite pick would be Denard Robinson, a former Michigan RB who also played in the NFL for seven seasons. After serving as the scouting assistant at Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021, he took his executive talent to Michigan in 2022 and is currently the assistant director of player personnel.

Robinson is already popular among the players and recruits and is a force in Michigan, as evident in his on-campus recruiting role. His pro league experience in the RB position and recruiting skills make him a standout choice to fill in the void left by Hart.

DeMarco Murray, RB Coach, Oklahoma

If Sherrone Moore is scouting beyond his staff members, DeMarco Murray could be another potential replacement. The retired RB player was a star RB for seven seasons in the NFL and was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2014. After retirement, he served as an RB coach for Arizona in 2019 before moving to Oklahoma in 2020. Hiring him would be an excellent decision by Moore.

Jonathan Wallace, RB Coach, Kansas

Another potential star replacement for Hart is Kansas’ RB coach, Jonathan Wallace, who is currently in his fourth year of running in Kansas. Under his leadership, RBs Devin Neal and Daniel Hishaw Jr. made a combined record of 1,808 rushing yards, ranking fourth on the FBS as the most rushing yards in a regular season. Wallace was also picked for the AFCA 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute late last year, which only marks his potential as a great coach.
