Some NFL stars don’t just shine on the field – they show up as real heroes in life, too. Just ask Troy Aikman and Tony Romo, who have been continuing to fight for the needy. But they aren’t alone in this run. Dallas Cowboys’ QB Dak Prescott is also beside them, working for the children and youth, and giving them the life they want.
“When I see these kids, I see courage, hope, and strength. This year, as a new father myself, it is that much more impactful.” Dak Prescott said this last year, while addressing 23 pediatric cancer patients, who showcased their immense bravery at the 2024 Children’s Cancer Fund Gala. Now, once again, Prescott and former NFLers – Troy Aikman and Tony Romo – have reunited for the same cause.
On X, reporter Jon Machota shared a heartwarming clip of young Lennox Lannon, a cancer warrior, making his way down the runway. With a golf club in hand and a big smile on his face, the little guy walked proudly beside Tony Romo, who clapped and cheered him on the whole way. The crowd loved it. In the caption, Machota added that Romo wasn’t the only one there – “Troy Aikman and Dak Prescott are in attendance for tonight’s 35th anniversary Children’s Cancer Fund event in Dallas.”

The Children’s Cancer Fund (CCF) marked a monumental celebration on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. This year’s philanthropic event promised to be a star-studded night for impactful fundraising aimed at supporting the fight against childhood cancer. During the event, the cancer-warrior children, ranging in age from 5-17, participated and walked the runway along with the celebs. Last year too, they did the same, eventually raising $2.6 million to help create a brighter future for cancer patients by advancing research and care.
As per the US Childhood Cancer Organization, approximately 1 in 285 children are diagnosed with the disease before they turn 20. So, it’s definitely an important topic that needs attention. And Dak Prescott knows it very well. Last year, he rightly said, “They are normal kids who want to go to school, play sports, have fun with their friends, and eat dinner with their families. Instead, they find themselves fighting, chemo, hospitalizations, procedures, fear, and more. Tonight is our chance to put the spotlight on them, admire their fortitude and dream of ending pediatric cancer for their sake and for our future.”
Kudos to the event organizers as well as the stars who took out some time to celebrate the children, giving them much-needed spotlight. Besides Dak Prescott and the former QBs, the event also saw gala chair Lori Jones, who is a Dallas philanthropist and executive with the team. In addition, longtime anchor at NBC5 News, Meredith Land, graced the occasion too. Indeed, it was an emotional night to see the stars supporting the young generation, helping them fight the deadly disease. Before the event, Jones decided to drop her thoughts on the cause, saying, “It’s not just about raising funds — it’s about celebrating the incredible strength of these young warriors.” Wow! The fans now hope that the event succeeds in raising handsome funds for the kids!
After all, this is a special moment for quarterback Dak Prescott, who is himself handling the baggage of pain due to cancer.

Dak Prescott is determined to end cancer
Dak Prescott’s mom, Peggy, died from colon cancer in 2013, when the QB was still in college. Since that day till now, the Cowboys’ captain writes a letter to his late mom before every game. “She’s the person I vent to. I pull out my phone and start writing.” Prescott has seen his beloved mom go away from his eyes forever. Hence, the athlete decided to honor her by founding an organization – Faith Fight Finish Foundation.

With this, he is now helping the young kids who suffer from colon cancer. In 2021, on Mother’s Day, Dak Prescott also wrote a note on social media – “Many of you know I lost my dear mother to colorectal cancer, and every day I Stand Up in her honor through my foundation Faith Fight Finish Foundation by Dak Prescott. In honor of #MothersDay this Sunday, I’ve started a fundraiser for #StandUpToCancer (Stand Up To Cancer) to raise funds for important and needed colorectal cancer research. The money raised will support the next early career scientist who will work alongside a SU2C Colorectal Cancer Dream Team and continue making progress in the fight against this disease. Together, we will end cancer as we know it.”
No doubt, Dak Prescott is trying his best to end cancer, and for this philanthropic work, he also received the 2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year award. And as obvious, the 31-year-old dedicated the win to his mom – “I want to acknowledge the person who has had the biggest influence on my life, my mother, Peggy. My mother was, and still is, my moral compass. And through my own charitable contributions, I seek to share her strength and courage with the world.” Indeed, Prescott is the real hero for cancer patients!
