It was a somber Wednesday morning for former quarterback Kurt Warner. That sunrise carried a different meaning for him. Just hours after losing someone close, the colors of the dawn felt both painful and comforting.

“Yesterday I lost someone very close to me & woke up to this beautiful sunrise reminding me of her! She was an amazing, beautiful person who loved me so well & and I count myself blessed to have had her in my life!!!” Warner wrote on X. “Life will never be the same without her, but I’m grateful I had her in my life this long! Life is too short… don’t miss your moments to appreciate those in your life!”

Within hours of his message, former quarterback and longtime friend Bernie Kosar was the first from the NFL world to respond. 

“Not sure what words are right, but for Sure Prayers,” Bernie Kosar wrote. 

He offered his prayers, letting Warner know he stood with him in grief. Kosar’s own journey has been difficult. After battling liver failure and cirrhosis, he underwent transplant surgery earlier this month, a life-saving procedure. That made his message more meaningful.

“Thanks, my brother… and right back at you!!” Warner responded. He did not disclose the name of the deceased person or the relationship he shared with her.

Over the years, Warner has lost many near and dear ones. Back in 2016, he lost his former coach, Dennis Green. Green’s Cardinals tenure lasted from 2004 to 2006, and Warner joined the team in 2005. They worked together for a rather short time, but it was enough to establish a strong relationship.

By 2006, Warner was considering retirement. But Green wanted rookie Matt Leinart to learn from Warner. The coach believed that the veteran QB was a good influence.
