The former tight end is signing a one-day contract with the New England team!

“I am signing a one-day contract with the Patriots this week, coming up to retire as a Patriot for life, just like all of you out here,” he said on Sunday. “So, I’m going with the Patriots.

“But I know Tom is still bitter. The Patriots let him go for his final three seasons in the NFL. So, he is secretly rooting for the Buccaneers.”

Well, Brady denied rooting for the other side but didn’t forget to mention that the Patriots built him a statue and unveiled it during the preseason. And with that, the team only expedited the process of having him inducted into their Hall of Fame.

And the playful back-and-forth between Brady and ‘Gronk’ is no surprise. After all, the two spent over a decade side by side with the Patriots and later the Bucs. Though ‘Gronk’ ended his professional football career in Tampa Bay, he always wanted to retire a Patriot for life. In fact, back in August, he teased about signing a one-day contract with New England shortly after the Pats unveiled Brady’s statue outside of Gillette Stadium.

“Come back for a day, a weekend, whatever it is. So we’ll make it happen, and it’ll be a really, really cool moment,” the Patriots’ legend told the reporters in August. “It’s going to happen. We just don’t know when.”

Plus, the one-day contract move isn’t that rare. In the past, several NFL stars have done the same to retire with the team they spent the most time one. Think about San Francisco 49ers’ Jerry Rice, San Diego Chargers’ LaDainian Tomlinson, and Dallas Cowboys’ Emmitt Smith.

What about Brady? Well, after the quarterback had announced his retirement, Kraft told CNN that he hoped Brady would be open to signing a one-day contract with the team. And in a few different interviews, Kraft revealed that they had been talking about it. While there are no recent reports about it, there is a chance it might happen in the future. Just like how Gronkowski got one.
