Entering the Super Bowl as a 12-point favorite and losing unexpectedly can leave anyone with a permanent scar. The 2008 Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants goes down in history as a game to remember. The Giants delivered one of the biggest upsets by defeating the Patriots 17-14.

For Tom Brady who is passionate about football, it was a tough pill to swallow and digest even after it’s gone and past. Looking back, the NFL GOAT said, “Losing the 2007 Super Bowl was devastating.”

The Dynasty: New England Patriots docuseries recently released its fifth episode titled “Torn” which documented the Super Bowl XLII. Five months later after the loss, Brady told his team, “As I reflect back on last season, we didn’t finish the way we wanted. But we know what we shared and I hope we learned from it. And I hope we take it forward.” He added as his voice started to break up, “I always get emotional just thinking about things I really care about.”

The reason why Tom Brady couldn’t accept the reality of the situation is that the Patriots were on fire that season. They dominated the entire season and went 16-0 only to lose to the Giants in the final game. Brady learned something from that particular game. No matter how accomplished or learned you think you are in football and life, “you never have it quite mastered.” But what really happened in that game?

The Patriots entered the Super Bowl XLII with the hope of becoming the first undefeated team to win the Super Bowl since the Miami Dolphins in 1972. Starting from the fourth quarter, the Giants brought on their magic winning drive from their 17-yard line with 2:39 minutes left. The turning point was the Helmet Catch by David Tyree on 3rd down for a 32-yard first-down conversion.
