“Looking forward to this stud running it in the league.” Patriots legend Julian Edelman posted this about Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter. Hunter has been a dominant force in college football, and winning the 2024 Heisman Trophy only adds to his dual-threat appeal. But that versatility also presents a challenge. Any team eyeing him in the 2025 NFL Draft must fully understand his abilities and make a tough decision on how to use him. Analysts continue to debate his value. Rumors link the New York Giants to him as they hold the No. 3 pick in the first round. Reports say the team is actively pursuing a top receiver.
On Thursday, Super Bowl winner and Giants legend Michael Strahan sat down with Carmelo Anthony at The 7PM in Brooklyn. He was asked what he would have done if he were in the shoes of head coach Brian Daboll. Reflecting on the Giants’ current situation — especially with new QB Russell Wilson now in town — the legend shared his thoughts.
His reply was simple: “I would (let him play both sides of the ball), but not all the time, not every package. I think he’s more of an impact as a wide receiver. He’s more of an impact, and he’s a shutdown-type corner. But I just think if you’re going to use his energy, I would use it as a wide out.” That feels more right. He should only play one position.

Patriots legend Devin McCourty also wants him to decide beforehand about his playing position. Irrespective of the position he plays, it’s more about the stress on the body. He claimed that the NFL and college games are different. And there’s an injury factor that cannot be ignored. But he hasn’t changed his stance.
Amid all this, Travis Hunter has reiterated his double skills by requesting the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to introduce him as “Wide receiver and DB” in the draft. However, if he goes to the NY Giants, he could benefit more by playing with Mr. Unlimited. He’s a veteran who has helped receivers like Hunter up their stock and learn how to cope with NFL pressure.

Should Travis Hunter focus on being a wide receiver, or is his dual-threat too valuable to ignore?

The NY Giants legend even talked about the positives for the college player in the NFL franchise. That ended with a demand for the Giants HC as he added, “Put him with (Malik) Nabers, would damn near be impossible to stop.” It would really be hard for their rivals.

Daboll praised the college star last week and also revealed his decision: “We’ll evaluate him at both spots.” So, the debate continues — and it doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon.
In three years of college football, Travis Hunter excelled as a receiver. In 29 starts, he recorded 167 receptions for 2,061 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown. Moreover, on the defensive side, he tallied 9 interceptions, 22 passes defended, and 80 tackles (58 solo).
If the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner pairs up with the Giants’ receiving corps, it could lead to major success. In his rookie year, Malik Nabers recorded 109 receptions for 1,204 receiving yards and 7 TDs. But the decision lies in the hands of the Giants’ front office and the coaching staff. Will they listen to their legend?
