The San Francisco 49ers” legendary duo, Jerry Rice and Steve Young, have reunited, not to dominate the field, but to champion a social cause. Years after retiring from football, the iconic quarterback-receiver duo is raising awareness about food insecurity, rekindling their chemistry to support Bay Area families.

Sharing a picture from their recent meeting at the 49ers’ Week 5 clash against the Los Angeles Rams, Steve Young posted the announcement on his Instagram. “Honored to join up with our Bay Area community and my main man #80 to support something always very close to our hearts over the years: lifting families up in our backyard during the holiday season❤️💛,” he wrote.

Further highlighting the importance of indulging in charitable activities, the legendary quarterback used his teammate Jerry Rice’s name in a lighthearted way to make the appeal engaging.

“Even the smallest thing that you might not think to give your local food bank — like a extra can or two — could end up making the biggest impact in someone’s life. When measured across the entire network, those few extras can turn into a mountain. 🏔️ And Jerry says we could always use plenty of rice,” he added.

Steve Young and Jerry Rice are known to be one of the best football duos ever.

Young threw for more than 33,000 yards and 232 touchdowns, and he could also run well, scoring 43 rushing touchdowns. Rice, on the other hand, also secured unmatched records with 1,549 catches, almost 23,000 receiving yards, and 208 total touchdowns.

During their time with the 49ers, they made the offense almost impossible to stop and helped the team win a Super Bowl (XXIX).

Years after retiring from the NFL, both started spending a major chunk of their time giving back.

Steve Young’s Forever Young Foundation supports kids who are sick or struggling, giving them safe places to learn, play, and heal. Jerry Rice also gives back through his 127 Foundation, working with groups that help children and support health causes like kidney disease awareness.
