“That’s not my call. I would love to go back if they were to call,” Sharpe said on reuniting with ESPN and sports analyst Stephen A. Smith during an exclusive interview with Front Office Sports.
“Burke [Magnus], Jimmy [Pitaro], Dave Roberts. That is their call. But obviously, I’m more than willing, I’m more than capable. They see what we do here on Nightcap. They see the numbers that we generate. Club Shay Shay was in the Top 10 this weekend on YouTube. Both of our shows are normally in the Top 20…So clearly, I still have a fan base. I still have a big following. If a reunion is in order, I’m amenable to it.”

Shannon Sharpe supported his case by pointing out two shows that are produced by his company, Shay Shay Media. Shortly after he retired from professional football, he took on an analyst role at CBS Sports before joining FS1’s Undisputed in 2016.
However, that partnership with co-host Skip Bayless culminated in an ugly on-air breakup. It even led Sharpe to walk away with a buyout from FS1 in 2023. Later that year, Smith brought the former tight end to ESPN’s First Take. The move not only boosted Sharpe’s popularity but also landed him a multi-year contract extension in mid-2024. The move positioned him as a potential future face of the network.

At the same time, Sharpe’s own company was flourishing with multiple deals coming in. One of Club Shay Shay’s interviews featuring Katt Williams garnered over 90 million views. By early 2025, many industry insiders were comparing his rise to sportswriter Bill Simmons’. But his career took a hit due to a serious controversy, which forced him to end his ties with ESPN.

How Shannon Sharpe’s allegations led to his ESPN exit
Sharpe’s tenure at ESPN came to an end in April 2025, when he stepped away following a sexual assault lawsuit filed against him earlier that month in Clark County, Nevada. According to the court documents, the lawsuit was filed by Jane Doe, who sought $50 million. In her complaint, she alleged that the Hall of Famer assaulted her on multiple occasions in Las Vegas between October and January.
The two reportedly met at a Los Angeles gym in 2023 when she was 20. They later entered into a relationship that lasted nearly two years. The lawsuit was settled in July 2025, though neither side disclosed specific terms of the agreement at the time. Later, Sharpe’s attorney, Lanny Davis, disclosed the settlement amount to be $10 million.

“All matters have now been addressed satisfactorily, and the matter is closed,” attorney Tony Buzbee said on X. “The lawsuit will thus be dismissed with prejudice.”

Meanwhile, Sharpe had consistently denied the allegations, calling them “false and disruptive.” While he stepped away from ESPN on April 24, 2024, he pledged to return before the NFL preseason. That never happened, with a source later confirming his split with the broadcasting company. Shortly after, Sharpe confirmed the news and expressed gratitude.
“I really enjoyed my time at ESPN,” he said on the Nightcap podcast. “It gave me an opportunity to bring my audience that saw me really just grow. They did what they felt they needed to do, and I’m at peace with that.”
With the legal troubles behind him and his digital brand stronger than ever, Sharpe’s public appeal for a reunion puts the ball firmly in ESPN’s court, leaving fans to wonder if the network is ready to bring the Hall of Famer back into the fold.
