After a months-long search, former NFL wideout Antonio Brown was finally apprehended Thursday in Dubai by U.S. Marshals on an attempted murder charge, Miami police confirmed on Thursday. He has since been extradited to the United States and booked in Essex County, New Jersey, where he’ll remain until being transferred to the Miami-Dade County Jail. While the U.S. Marshals Service has yet to comment, Brown has already spoken out publicly

“Handed over the keys to the socials and CTESPN to my team while I go through this fight for my innocence,” Brown shared on his X. “Happy to showcase love & entertainment. All love & respect to everyone for the support #FREEAB”

According to police, Brown is facing a second-degree attempted murder charge connected to a May 17 incident at a celebrity boxing event hosted by streamer Adin Ross in Miami. A video from the event appeared to show Brown in an altercation with several people before he was separated from the fray and seen holding what looked like a black pistol as he pursued one of the men. Moments later, gunshots echoed through the scene, sending the crowd into panic.

Police questioned multiple witnesses at the scene and briefly detained Brown, but no arrests were made at the time, and no injuries were initially reported, according to The Associated Press. Later that night, Brown claimed on social media to try and clear the air.

The 37-year-old reportedly evaded authorities for more than four months, frequently posting on social media in the meantime, including videos of himself driving a luxury sports car, getting a haircut, and relaxing poolside. “He was taunting us on social media,” Miami police spokesperson Michael Vega told The Athletic. “We identified he was in Dubai, we let the Marshals know.”

Vega said Brown’s extradition to Miami could take anywhere from a day to several weeks, after which he will make his first court appearance. “We’re just glad that we’re able to identify the shooter and bring him to justice,” Vega said.

“Let this serve as a clear message: No matter who you are or where you run, we will pursue the facts, identify you, locate you, and bring you to justice,” Chief Manuel Morales said in a statement. “To anyone even considering committing a crime in Miami— know this: We will find you.”

This latest case adds to a long list of legal troubles for the seven-time Pro Bowl receiver. He played only one game for the New England Patriots in 2019 after facing a lawsuit alleging sexual assault, later settling the case privately. In 2020, he pleaded no contest to burglary and battery charges stemming from an altercation with a moving company and was sentenced to probation and community service. Since then, Brown has been arrested multiple times on child support warrants and even filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2024, claiming to owe more than $3 million to creditors. Now, he faces a felony charge that could carry up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Whether this latest arrest will end differently remains to be seen, but one thing’s certain: Antonio Brown’s fight is far from over.

More details on the Antonio Brown incident

Antonio Brown carved out a brilliant 12-year NFL career, mostly with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he became one of the league’s biggest stars. He even led the NFL in receiving yards in 2014 (1,698 yards) and 2017 (1,533 yards). Later, he grabbed a Super Bowl ring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020,  marking what many thought would be his last big moment in the league. So, when news broke about his arrest, it instantly caught the attention of fans across the league. And now, more details are surfacing about what really happened.

According to Grethel Aguila of the Miami Herald, the case has deeper personal roots. Reports say Brown knew the alleged victims. One of them, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, claimed he has known Brown since 2022. Nantambu, a jeweler, told investigators that he once lent Brown a pendant to wear at a Floyd Mayweather event in Dubai, and that Brown never returned it.

But it didn’t end there. The Herald also reported that Brown accused Nantambu of stealing $3 million worth of jewelry from him. That false accusation, Nantambu says, led to him being jailed in the Middle East for a month before he could clear his name. Now, as per reports, Nantambu also claims that during the Miami shooting incident, one bullet scratched his neck. But now, Antonio Brown has been arrested.

With these revelations, all eyes are now on how this story unfolds and whether the next chapter finally brings clarity or even more chaos.
