The reigning champion Patrick Mahomes walked into the Arrowhead Stadium like a king. The 2X Super Bowl MVP even led his team to a 41-0 against the Chicago Bears. Patrick Mahomes appeared to suffer an injury near the end of the second quarter.

However, this is not the first time the QB champ has suffered an ankle injury in the middle of a game.  His ankle injury colored the Kansas City Chiefs‘ Super Bowl journey during last year’s postseason.

Limps and field goals: Mahomes battles through injury, Chiefs lead 34-0

The Chiefs were lighting up the scoreboard, leading a whopping 31-0 against the Bears. The football gods must’ve been smiling down on Patrick Mahomes and his crew. And in a snap, the Chiefs’ darling went down with an injury. Mahomes got his ankle rolled up during a pass attempt near the end of the second half. Chicago Bears pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue hit Mahomes’ right leg while the team attempted to add a few more points to the scoreboard.

Even though Mahomes was having a monster day, slinging that pigskin for 221 yards and 

tossing two touchdowns in the first half. He could call it a day after the Chiefs snatched 34 points from the Bears through two quarters.

Mahomes stayed in the game but was noticeably limping. Kansas City hit a field goal to close the second half and headed to the locker room up 34-0.

But that doesn’t deter the QB’s spirit. The gridiron wizard chose to show his winning mentality and come back throwing the ball and jogging after halftime. Mahomes suffered an ankle injury that eventually won him his second Lombardi Trophy. Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain in Kansas City’s Divisional Round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in January. Is this a déjà vu for Mahomes?
