Who’d have thought the Indianapolis Colts would end two streaks in a row? Granted, the first was the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 3 game win streak, and this one was the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 4 game losing streak, but still. The win against the Steelers was quite the upset, especially with their backup quarterback at the helm. At 39-years-old, Joe Flacco, the second oldest active quarterback in the league, showed age was just a number that night. And honestly, he did so tonight, too. The man threw 3 touchdowns, one of them a whopping 65-yard pass, a total of 359-yards. That’s borderline heroics. But they lost anyway.

And to make matters worse, now offensive lineman Will Fries, who plays right guard, has suffered a pretty severe leg injury, and had to be carted off. Colts coach Shane Steichen has come out and announced that Fries will undergo surgery for his lower leg fracture in Jacksonville itself.

Fries was injured late in the 3rd quarter of the game, when he was blocking on a Trey Sermon run and ended up in an absolute pile-up. His right ankle got caught under a defender while he was flat on his back and was wrenched. He was carted off the field in an air-cast, though he did reportedly flash a thumbs-up at the time. From the looks of it though, it’s a season ender.

If you’re wondering how the Colts lost despite Flacco’s heroics, there’s a two-pronged answer. Firstly, Trevor Lawrence had his best game of the season by country mile tonight. He threw 2 touchdowns, one of them on an 85 yard pass, a total of 371 yards with an insane 82.4% completion. If he hadn’t fired today, the Jaguars would’ve had a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. But then it’s the rushing heroics of Tank Bigsby that brought them home safe. The young man, only in his second year, ran 101-yards and scored 2 touchdowns.

What’s holding the Colts back? Who’s injured besides Will Fries?

The Indianapolis Colts have experienced pretty much every kind of result you can have so far. They opened the season with a narrow defeat to the Texans, then a moderate defeat vs the Packers, followed by a decent win against the Bears and then a narrow win against the Steelers. With a narrow defeat against the Jacksonville Jaguars tonight, do we anticipate a moderate defeat against the Titans? Leaving superstition behind, it’s clear the Colts have been struggling with injuries.

Their star quarterback Anthony Richardson’s been out with hip and oblique injury since last week, though he hopes to return soon. The Colts are missing running back Jonathan Taylor and center Ryan Kelly too. And now, Will Fries, likely for the rest of the season. With their manpower sapped, they can’t really operate to full capacity, but you’ve got to admire what they’re doing with what they’ve got.

The Titans don’t look so threatening next to the Steelers, but then again, neither did the Jaguars. The Colts will just have to pull their socks up and do their best.
