For the franchise and its fans, it was nothing less than a shocker. The LB mostly remains calm handling the pressure situations during the games. Michael Wilhoite also contributed to the community by organizing camps for the youth. Topeka native often partnered with NBA star Kyle Weems to organize Big Kev Give Back Camp at Washburn. It’s an homage to his humble roots.

The coach has been part of the league, first as a player and later as a coach. Here’s his life path.

Michael Wilhoite – From a player to a coach

He went undrafted in the 2011 NFL Draft but didn’t waver, signing with the Omaha Nighthawks in the 2011 UFL. However, the 49ers picked him up in December 2011, and he remained with them until 2016. The only other team he played for was the Seahawks in 2017. In 2018, he took a one-year break.

However, 2019 was the start of a new journey. Michael Wilhoite came back to the NFL as the Saints special team’s assistant. Just two years later, he went to the LA Chargers as their linebackers coach. He played an instrumental role in developing players such as Kyzir White and Drue Tranquill. But they fired him in 2023.

2024 was his first year at the Broncos. It was a success as they qualified for the playoffs after 9 long years (after the Super Bowl win in 2015). While Sean Payton was trying to build the team in the 2025 off-season, this news could derail their plans.
