Poised to face the Lions at last year’s NFC Championship Game at Bay Area, Jake Moody’s parents had a tough choice to make. Moody, who himself grew up in Northville, Michigan, was only 30 miles away from Détroit. However, coming out of Michigan Wolverines after five years at the college level, Moody found his new home in Santa Clara.

Drafted by the 49ers as their third-round pick, Moody’s family had to rethink their allegiance to the Lions. Because his father and mother were both natives of Michigan, but their son had to kick for the Niners. This led to his father and mother making a tough decision for their son.

Who is Jake Moody’s father?

Away from his regular support to Moody’s journey as a placekicker in the NFL. Chad Moody is known for his business acumen. As per his LinkedIn profile, Chad works as a product development global total cost supervisor. And not for some measly company out there. Moody’s dad works at Ford Motor Company after making his way through the corporate ladder. Previously, he used to work as a project engineer at Superior Plastic, Inc.

Interestingly, Chad Moody once revealed how he remained a huge Lions supporter from birth until his son’s new chapter in the NFL. Speaking with Detroit’s Local 4 News, Chad conveyed, “Well, I’ve been a Lions fan basically since birth. It’s tough, but we’re going to root for the 49ers. Our son’s on the team, so of course, we’ll root for our son’s team.” 

Although he was ready to cheer the Niners, Chad also gave his thoughts on what would happen if they lost, “If the 49ers do happen to lose. I’ll be breaking out my Lions gear and cheering for them in the Super Bowl, of course.” Then, he would have surely put on his autographed Jason Hanson’s Lions helmet, which he proudly flaunts in his office. But Chad isn’t the only one in the family who had to change their team as Moody prepared to face the Lions before the Super Bowl.

Who is the placekicker’s mother?

Working as a math teacher at Livonia Public School in Michigan, Moody’s mother, Lisa, has been a part of the institution for more than two decades. Before her journey as a math professor, Lisa completed her education at Michigan State.

So it was nothing new for her to find Moody playing for a different team than the one she preferred to support. Yes, we are talking about those clashes when Moody’s Michigan came up against Michigan State. “The second a team plays against my son. I’m going to root for my son, of course. I had to do the same thing with Michigan versus Michigan State, and I did OK with that,” opined Lisa.

She even had to convince her students at Livonia to cheer for his son by offering them a proposition, “The boys are veteran football players and want my son to lose, so I kind of said to them. How about you can root for the Lions but not for Jake to miss his kicks? They said that was fair.” Although the 49ers did manage to get the better of the Lions, they couldn’t cross the finish line, as the 49ers failed to beat the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. But Jake Moody’s parents would be proud that their son scored three field goals, with two of them going over 50 yards.
