Essentials Inside The Story
- Tyreek Hill's trial in Sophie Hall lawsuit finally begins.
- Hall has been trying to gain an edge in her case over the wide receiver for some time now.
- Meanwhile, chatter about Hill's homecoming to Kansas continue to grow and for a reason.
We reported in March that Sophie Hall, the model who accused the former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill of breaking her leg, wanted the court to get a psychiatric evaluation of him. It would have given her an edge in the lawsuit, as Hill had a pattern of aggressive behavior, especially towards women. However, Judge David Haines refused. The trial remained.

She sued Hill in 2024 after the latter allegedly broke her leg during a backyard football practice gone wrong. So, as the top free agent in the NFL market is still waiting to play offense for a new team, he first has to play defense in the court. Finally, after two years, Hall can look forward to an official hearing.
On Wednesday, Hill and Hall entered the Broward County courtroom with their respective legal teams to officially begin the process. The first step in the civil trial would be selecting the jury from nearly 100 potential jurors in court, which began Wednesday.
Opening statements are expected to take place on Thursday, which will officially kick off the trial that is expected to be two weeks long. Here are further details:
What Hall demands:
Hall is suing Hill for compensatory and punitive damages (assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligence) totaling $50,000, claiming she suffers pain in her legs to this day. She had to undergo surgery to get hardware installed in her leg in 2023.
Her claims against Hill include. She described the whole incident as a “friendly football lesson gone wrong.” And, Hall also claimed that Hill hadn’t paid much attention to her injury, asking her to just rest and ice the injury.
How Hill is defending his case:
The receiver’s legal team is denying any wrongdoing. Judge Haimes explained the defense’s front to the court:
“Hill denies that he caused her injury. He also contends that Hall was herself negligent, and voluntarily consented to activity and assumed risks associated with participating in the football drills,” Haimes said.

Hill maintained his stance previously as well, suggesting that the incident was an accident and happened while the two were practicing drills. Here’s everything that happened:
How we got to this point:
The incident happened a month after Hall met Hill in May 2023, as her son attended the WR’s youth football camp. He invited the influencer to his home in Southwest Ranches, Florida, where the two participated in drills for fun.
“Defendant Hill asked Ms. Hall to stand in a defensive line stance while he stood opposite her in an offensive lineman stance, ‘hiked’ the ball to the quarterback, and told her to rush him as if she wanted to chase the quarterback,” the lawsuit states.
“Ms. Hall did as instructed and on contact with the Defendant, caused Hill to be pushed backwards, garnering laughter from the witnesses present at the time, including the Defendant’s mother, sister, friend and trainer.”
Sophie alleged that Hill’s “attitude changed and he became angry” as they lined up for another play. This time, Hill took the defensive line position while Hall continued holding her own during the drill.
Hill downplayed the injury, but when she returned home, she got her right leg checked to find a fracture. She had to undergo “surgery with orthopedic reconstruction and hardware implantation.”
The lawsuit has emerged amid ongoing doubts concerning Hill’s career in the NFL following his release by the Miami Dolphins in February 2026. But the buzz around his return to Kansas City is picking up.
Tyreek Hill could return to the Chiefs
Entering the draft, the receiving corps was one of the bigger question marks on the Chiefs’ roster. It remains the same entering the camps.
They are trying to change their offensive scheme under the returning offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy because it hasn’t ranked better than 15th in scoring in last three years. They want to run the ball more, but with Patrick Mahomes under the center, they will still need targets for him to continue their air game.
They currently have Rashee Rice, but because of his inconsistent availability – whether due to injuries or off-field troubles – he remains just a bonus and not a solid pillar. The Chiefs have Xavier Worthy behind him, but he did not have a good performance last season. Tyquan Thornton impressed, but isn’t their answer in every play. They also have Jalen Royals and Cyrus Allen, who remain unproven.
It begs the question: Would the Chiefs want a home-grown talent back in red and gold?
Probably, especially given this is their rebound year. But Hill is currently recovering from a knee injury suffered while playing for the Dolphins against the New York Jets on September 29, 2025. He dislocated his knee and tore his ACL during the game. Although he played 54 games for Miami and recorded 4,733 receiving yards and 28 total touchdowns, the Dolphins let him go.
He is now one of the best remaining talents in free agency. And murmurs are increasing about his homecoming to Kansas.
“We know that Tyreek (Hill) is planning to play this upcoming season. You’re going to get more updates on his health, given his rehab,” ESPN Chiefs insider Nate Taylor said on 96.5 The Fan. “We know he’s a diligent worker, so I don’t think that’s the issue.
“I don’t want to be hyperbolic or over the top, but I think there’s like more than a 50 percent chance that he’s in a Chiefs uniform. I will put it at like 55 percent, maybe even 60.”
Hill won Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs and was named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team as a punt returner. During his time in Kansas City, he earned Pro Bowl honors every season and recorded 479 receptions for more than 6,600 receiving yards. Hill posted four of his six career 1,000-yard receiving seasons playing alongside Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
There is more than enough capability for Tyreek Hill to become a strong name in the depth, or even outperform the young talent to be the starter. But the Chiefs will await word on his legal troubles and injury status before making such a decision, even though he remains someone too good to pass up.
