Patrick Mahomes’ household has lost some very special backyard visitors. After watching a family of eagles make themselves at home near the property, Brittany Mahomes has revealed that the majestic birds have apparently moved on.

“But sadly they are gone 😞,” she wrote in a recent Instagram Story featuring a few marks that the eagles had left on her grass. “Think they raised their babies and now their off, they come back for mating season maybe idk.”

It’s odd that golden eagles, of all birds, made their home in Patrick Mahomes’ backyard. After all, the Philadelphia Eagles are the Kansas City Chiefs’ nemesis. The birds had kept Brittany busy during their stay.

She has been documenting their story on Instagram for some time. Initially, she didn’t know that the pair were golden eagles; she had to Google them. She noticed that the birds seemed to have found a home in the Mahomes property.

“I’m concerned. Are they trying to take over at this point?” she joked. “I’m a little scared.”

The Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles have forged one of the NFL’s premier modern rivalries. It’s a close battle, with the Chiefs leading 7-6. The rivalry is also fueled by their Super Bowl victories, won after facing each other as opponents in Super Bowl LVII (Chiefs) and LIX (Eagles).

The latter was a devastating game for Patrick Mahomes in particular, who was intercepted twice and sacked six times by the Eagles defense.

The NFL has pitted the Eagles and the Chiefs against each other in the regular season because of heightened competition and viewership potential. Their last meeting was in the 2025 season, which the Eagles won 20-17 at the Chiefs’ home.

Interestingly, this is not the first time the Mahomes family has had a close encounter with the birds of prey. This past month, eagles have been frequenting their backyard. Last year, Brittany also shared a picture of a bald eagle sitting on a tree in her driveway.

“Think I could teach it how to attack on command?” she wrote in the caption.

For now, the avian family has bid them farewell for good. While the backyard might feel a little empty without their guests, the Mahomes family will certainly keep an eye out in the sky. Chiefs fans might be hoping the birds never return.
