Ahead of Week 5, the NFL announced its picks for the Offensive and Defensive players of the past week from the NFC and AFC. But not everyone was thrilled with the results. This past week, Philadelphia Eagles corner Quinyon Mitchell got the nod as the top NFC defensive player, while Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd earned the top spot for the AFC, via an IG post.

Right after the announcement, the Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott slid into the comment section and didn’t hold back, writing, “The cap on this app.” When a fan replied saying it should’ve been him on the list, Elliott hit back with a cryptic response: “I guess filling every category on the stat sheet don’t mean sh-t.”

Over the first four weeks of the 2025 season, Elliott has already shown why he’s such a key piece for the Steelers. In the season opener against the New York Jets, the 28-year-old safety racked up 6 total tackles in a tight 34–32 win. He then had to sit out the next two games with a knee injury, but when he came back, he made his presence felt right away.

In Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings, Elliot was all over the field. He recorded 6 tackles, 1 sack, 2 pass deflections, and an interception returned for 4 yards. Despite that stat line, he still didn’t get the nod as the AFC defensive player of the week, which tells you how stacked the competition has been.

Meanwhile, Mitchell managed to earn NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors after the corner gave up just two catches on nine targets for 6 yards in a 31-25 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Pro Football Focus. “I thought he played very well the other day,” Eagles’ DC, Vic Fangio, said. “I told him I think it was his best game since he’s been here. He played well.”

As for the AFC, the NFL named Lloyd the AFC defensive player of the week for his strong outing against the San Francisco 49ers. The LB recorded eight total tackles, a couple of picks, and a tackle for a loss in the win. But that was all from the defensive side of the ball. The offensive side?

Patrick Mahomes won the Offensive Player of the Week

The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t get the start they wanted this season, but they’ve managed to turn things around with a couple of strong comebacks. At the center of those wins is Patrick Mahomes. The 30-year-old quarterback led the Chiefs to back-to-back victories over the New York Giants in Week 3 and the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4.

For the latter, Mahomes earned the AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors, completing 25-of-37 passes for 270 yards and racking up four touchdowns with no interceptions, finishing with a 124.8 passer rating in the 37-20 win. That marked his 11th Offensive Player of the Week nod, the most in Chiefs history.

Meanwhile, over in the NFC, the Los Angeles Rams’ wide receiver Puka Nacua earned Offensive Player of the Week after torching the Indianapolis Colts’ secondary. The wideout caught 13 passes for 170 yards and added a receiving touchdown in a 27-20 win. As things stand, the Rams sit at 3-1 while the Chiefs are at 2-2, setting the stage for an intriguing Week 5 showdown.
