Have the Steelers ruled out Aaron Rodgers from their QB options? With the NFL Draft just two weeks away, Pittsburgh’s quarterback crisis is far from solved. And if they don’t figure it out soon, this could just turn into yet another season where the team wins games but falls short of the championship. It’s been nearly a decade since the Steelers won a playoff game. And now, even the owners, the Rooney family, have had enough of this mediocrity.
Enter former Steelers RB Merril Hoge, who brought up the Rooney family during a sit-down with Michelle Wright. Reflecting on the team’s ownership, Hoge didn’t hold back his admiration. He called the Rooneys a “great ownership” and shared, “I believe in them more now than ever.” And for the Steelers fans feeling a little restless lately, Hoge had some words of reassurance. “They might be silent, but they are very decisive,” he said.

” They’re very poignant. And they want to win a championship. The people who want to win the most are the Rooneys. Don’t ever underestimate that,” added Merril. Well, the Steelers haven’t had a single losing season in the last 18 years under Mike Tomlin’s leadership. But here’s the thing: They also haven’t had a single playoff win since 2016, let alone a real shot at the championship. Pittsburgh has made it to the postseason five times since that last win, only to get eliminated in the first round every single time.
So, it’s only natural for the ownership and the fanbase to not be okay with that “kind of mediocrity.” Now, all these years, Art Rooney has kept his faith in Mike Tomlin and his leadership. But now, if the team goes on like this for one more season, it might be time for a few changes.
This offseason, the biggest challenge Tomlin still has is, like we said before, finding a QB for the team. And the HC seems to be exploring all the options. He had a meeting with Aaron Rodgers. Now, another name is suddenly gaining attention.
Could Shedeur Sanders be the Steelers’ next QB?
Last week on Thursday, Colorado Buffaloes‘ young star Shedeur Sanders landed in Pittsburgh. The Steelers welcomed Sanders for a pre-draft visit at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. This new move gained a lot of attention, with everyone wondering if the Steelers are planning to draft Shedeur in two weeks. After his visit, Kay Adams got a hold of the young QB for a brief interview. In the interview, Sanders talked about his visit, something everyone’s been eager to know.

Sharing his experience, Sanders admitted he had a great time at the Steelers’ facility. “I think I connected well with all the coaches. It was real fun,” he said with a smile. When the conversation shifted to his interaction with head coach Mike Tomlin, Sanders drew a personal comparison. “Just how he is as a person, you know? The values he holds, the culture that the team has, and what he preaches from the staff down it’s similar to my dad,” Sanders shared. Shedeur also graded it 10/10 when host Kay asked him to grade the visit.

And how could you not mention Aaron Rodgers when you’re talking about the Steelers these days? So Adams tossed that question as well, “Did Aaron Rodgers come up at all? Like, was he mentioned by you or them?” While the QB shared that the ex-Jets QB’s name was not brought up, Sanders also shared that he would not have any issues if he has to sit behind a veteran to start his career. “If that’s how it plays out, then that’s how it plays out. I wouldn’t question what God has planned for me.” That’s a humble response.
