Essentials Inside The Story
- Aaron Rodgers sees room for improvement.
- Numbers don't paint a pretty picture for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- Rodgers backs Mike Tomlin and Co.
The Steelers had the chance to take advantage of an opponent weakened by injuries. Instead, the game played at Acrisure Stadium witnessed their own 26-7 downfall against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. So, Pittsburgh’s quarterback had every right to be disappointed, and that’s what he explained in the post-game conference.

“Players need to take accountability, myself included, and I will continue to,” Aaron Rodgers said after the game. “I’ve got to play better. But there are 11 stars on offense, 11 on defense, plus the personnel groupings that we run.
“And we got to have a Monday to Saturday that we can be really proud of and go out and play our best game and take control of the division.”
It was a comeback game for Aaron Rodgers, who missed the Week 12 game against the Chicago Bears with a left wrist injury. Unfortunately, Bills’ Joey Bosa sacked the QB in the third quarter, which left him with a bloodied nose. Rodgers fumbled the ball, and Buffalo’s cornerback Christian Benford recovered it to score a touchdown.
Mason Rudolph replaced Rodgers for some time, but his presence also failed to pick up the offense. With zero completed passes in three attempts, he also threw an interception. Regardless, Rodgers returned midway through the third quarter.
But the Bills’ defense didn’t give his team many opportunities. In the end, the QB completed 10 of 21 passes for 117 yards with no scores. His team was also outmatched on both sides of the ball.

The Steelers’ run game was a total disaster. They carried the ball only eighteen times for 58 yards and one touchdown, while the Bills piled up 51 carries for 249 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
That difference in stats disappointed Steelers’ T.J. Watt. “I’ve never seen a team run the same play as much as they ran it tonight and had as much success as they had. I’m out of words for it,” he said after the game.
Then there is the coaching staff. While the fanbase seems to have lost confidence in them, Aaron Rodgers backed them. He reassured the coaches that he still believes in their expertise.
Aaron Rodgers hasn’t lost hope in the coaching staff
Fans are unhappy with the head coach. The loud ‘Fire Tomlin!’ chants in the stands showed it. But the quarterback still defended his head coach, Mike Tomlin.
“I believe in the coaching staff. I believe in Mike Tomlin,” the veteran quarterback said.
However, fans are frustrated by repeated failures. With their latest loss, the team fell to 6-6. The Steelers have not asserted themselves as a Super Bowl contender this year, and for many years now.
In 2024, they played under quarterback Russell Wilson but still lost the final four games in a row before getting eliminated in the wild-card playoffs. Regardless, Rodgers brushed aside any concerns.
“I was booed before even in Green Bay, and that was a boo worthy performance,” he said, indicating their Week 13 performance as bad.
Yet, he also acknowledged the fans’ mentality behind such incidents. Rodgers claimed that they are also entitled to have an opinion, as they pay money for tickets and take out time to come and watch games.
All that said, Tomlin agreed that they didn’t play their best football. “That’s an awful performance by us. We didn’t do a lot well tonight, obviously.
“We didn’t possess the ball or maintain ball security on offense. We were highly penalized. We allowed those guys to run the ball. Didn’t play 60 minutes of action. Didn’t play complementary football,” he added.
What is done is done, and now, they will move their focus towards next week. The team is scheduled to face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14.
