The Eagles are back to the grind now. As the Super Bowl winners, they pick last in the first round of the draft. Even in free agency, they didn’t get many options. The head coach, Nick Sirianni, has sorted his priorities. Bring in players who can perform in the crucial moments. In simple words, big-time players! They carry the burden of keeping the trophy in Philly. The biggest contenders are the revenge-driven Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes.

Amid this drama of keeping a winning squad intact, the Eagles HC has got an offer from a player who has haunted the grim reaper for too long. In 134 games (124 started) in 9 NFL seasons, safety Justin Simmons recorded 32 interceptions, 71 defended passes, 4.5 sacks, and 666 tackles (479 solo). 6 of those interceptions have come against the Chiefs QB. The former Broncos player wants to play for the SB LIX winners in the coming season, as he said, “Going to Philly with Vic, you know exactly what you’re getting out of me.

The Eagles defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, has seen the player in his prime when he was the Broncos head coach between 2019 and 2021. Simmons played 8 years for the AFC West team before moving to the Falcons in 2024. In 2021, he signed a 4-year $61 million deal till 2024 with $35 million guaranteed. Yet, they released him early. And after a 1-year $8 million contract for last season, He is a free agent now.

A few days ago, he appeared on the Up & Adams show, where he told Kay Adams, “I want to go to the best situation, and I want to go to a team that’s gonna win.” His hope rests on the Eagles coach now. They also want to boost their roster. While they explore free agency, the draft is also coming up.

Nick Sirianni has to check other options too. They are walking a tightrope on bringing new talent.

Nick Sirianni hosts 3 college players

Wednesday, the 16th of April, was the last day when the college players could visit the NFL teams in person. And the Eagles didn’t waste the time. They hosted 3 college players to assess the defensive skills: Minnesota CB Justin Walley, Navy S Rayuan Lane III, and Syracuse RB LeQuint Allen.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Justin Simmons be the game-changer the Eagles need to fend off Mahomes and the Chiefs?

The Minnesota player is projected as a late 3rd-day pick. In 4 college seasons, he played 49 games (42 starters) and recorded 7 interceptions, 27 defended passes, 3 forced fumbles, and 155 tackles (113 solo). Overall, his talent is fine. But the 5-foot-10 height and 30.75-inch arm length do raise concerns.

The Navy safety is also projected to be a 7th-round pick or free agent. In case Nick Sirianni drafts him, he will become the first Navy player since 2020 to be drafted. From 2021 to 2024, he played 49 games (43 starters), had 7 interceptions, 21 defended passes, 8 forced fumbles, and 244 tackles (154 solo). He could become an effective backup safety.

After two defensive options, Nick Sirianni is also checking the offensive talent. RB Allen is one talent that he could develop into a lethal NFL regular. In 3 years at Syracuse, he had 514 carries for 2,359 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns. He also showed a decent receiving game with 119 receptions for 848 yards and 6 TDs.

With all the options available in the 2025 draft in Green Bay in Wisconsin, the Eagles need to work out their plans fast. They have a solid team. But if they want to keep their chances of retaining the Super Bowl alive, they need to bring in the new talent to match.
