The Claim: NFC East franchise New York Giants fired defensive coordinator Shane Bowen after the fourth-quarter implosion against the Denver Broncos.

Watch What’s Trending Now!

The New York Giants suffered an embarrassing defeat on the road in Denver. They blew a 19-0 lead entering the fourth quarter, then watched Denver score 33 points in the final period. Bowen’s questionable “drop eight” prevent defense allowed Bo Nix to carve up a soft secondary, including a 29-yard strike to Marvin Mims Jr. and a 22-yard pass to Courtland Sutton that set up the game-winning field goal.

Players knew it was over the moment the play call came in, and a tweet later in the day indicated that the franchise took action in the aftermath of the collapse. A tweet from Wesley Steinberg suggested that the New York Giants parted ways with Shane Steichen.

A day after the implosion at Empower Field at Mile High, HC Brian Daboll spoke to the media and indirectly dismissed any notion of changes at the coaching layer.

“No, I’m not considering that,” Daboll said. “But we’ve all got to do a better job. It starts with me. There were plenty of opportunities to finish that game the way we wanted to, and we didn’t get the job done.”

The account behind the supposed Shane Bowen update has a history of being flagged in X’s community notes. This came in March 2024 when Steinberg claimed the Giants would release QB Daniel Jones and designate him a post-June 1 cut, per a source.

On another occasion, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. called him out regarding another one of his tweets. On another occasion, Steinberg posted that Odell Beckham Jr. would be interested in a return to the team if QB Daniel Jones was replaced or benched. The Super Bowl-winning wide receiver responded to the post himself, indicating that it was a spoof. Tweets in response to the thread also showcased that this was a spoof account. One even claimed that Beckham Jr. had been “Steinberged.”

In 2023, Steinberg put forth a post claiming the Giants had agreed to a trade with the 49ers for Adoree Jackson. He added that they had failed to report it to the league in time.

49ers GM John Lynch busted this claim on KNBR’s Murph and Mac podcast. He said, “That is not true at all…That was not real.”

Steinberg’s account, per Front Office Sports, explained the posts on X. “It was just a bit of a joke between me and some friends trying to make them laugh, then it kept growing and sort of took on a life of its own. People seemed to enjoy it so I kept going with it.”
