Playing on an NFL practice team is no guarantee of a successful career. While the wages can go over $13,000 a week, the instability is what sometimes forces players to have other options. At least that was the case for Montorie Foster Jr., who had a major leverage point to help his off-the-field career.

Foster Jr. who played for Michigan State, went undrafted at the 2025 NFL Draft before the Seattle Seahawks signed him to their rookie training camp. But an injury to his hamstring meant he was cut almost immediately. However, he was added back to the Seahawks roster as part of the practice team.
During that period in 2025, Foster Jr. went and got his license to be a real estate agent.
“During the offseason, I was doing open houses, I brought my Super Bowl ring to the open houses,” he said on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” TV show. “I haven’t made a sale yet, but we’ve got some stuff brewing.”
Seahawks’ victory in the Super Bowl probably did not just elevate Foster’s football career, but also his future in real estate.
The young player was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and after he was initally cut, decided to move to substitute teaching. However, he later on went ahead and took his real estate license to be able to keep himself busy.
“Last year I went undrafted. I kept working, got an invite to Seattle Seahawks rookie minicamp and ended up getting signed. I tweaked my hamstring a couple days into training camp and they end up waiving me,” Foster said. “Kind of was lost. Didn’t know where I wanted to go… that’s kind of how I got into substitute teaching. And then kept working. Got my real-estate license to keep myself busy and mind away from football.”
Foster himself agreed that he was not able to make a sale yet, that maybe attributed to the fact that he is busy with the Seahawks this offseason trying to find a place in the 53-man roster.
Will Foster Jr. land a contract with the Seahawks?
Hard Knocks episode three revealed that each coach has their eyes on Foster Jr. While last season he was not able to make a lot of impact, this time around the player is making huge strides in training camp.
“Montonrie’s consistently showed up this entire camp thus far. He’s stayed on the trajectory that he’s been on,” said WR coach Frisman Jackson while speaking at the coaches meeting. “He’s still ascending, physical as h*** in the run game for him.”
Even quarterback Sam Darnold is offering Foster Jr. his flowers.
“I’m just excited when we get guys like Montorie, like guys that are gonna go out there and play really well for the twos and the threes. I want my boys in the qb room to have some dudes to throw to,” said Darnold. “I was once a two. Going out there in the preseason, you need those guys to count on. I’m just excited for Montorie cause I feel like he’s put in so much work and he’s been playing really well and again kind of just like under the radar a little bit but I’m excited to watch this guy play some preseason games cause I think he’s gonna shine.”
While the coaches and the quarterback have only good things to say about Foster Jr., his own target is clear: make the 53-man roster. But the competition is massive, and the Seahawks run very deep at the wide receiver position.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp are clearly the first choices, and Rashid Shaheed and Tory Horton are also assured their spots in the depth chart. According to Seahawks Wire, Jake Bobo is the in-house favourite for the fifth spot.
If the Seahawks decide to increase their depth to six or seven receivers, Foster Jr. is competing with the likes of Emmanuel Henderson, Ricki White and Cody White for that role.
For now, Montorie Foster Jr. can only keep his head down and keep putting in the reps that he has been in training. Some of the highlights on Hard Knocks show that the whole team is keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old who has been making one-handed snags look like a cakewalk.
