Almost 24 hours ago, the Eagles did what the 49ers couldn’t in 2023. They defeated the Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. For football buffs and more so for the franchises, the attention has now moved to Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium on February 8, 2026. And the 49ers owner Jed York wants a team that would go all the way and replicate the Birds’ success. It starts with getting stronger defensive players like Myles Garrett.

A few days ago, the defensive end shocked everyone by penning an open letter wanting out from the Browns. He wants to win a Super Bowl, but his current team doesn’t give much hope to him or the fans. Hours before the big game on February 9, he re-asserted his willingness to get out and said, “I’m willing to do whatever it takes.” He’s finally got some hope.

SF Reporter David Lombardi claimed his friend, Tim Kawakami, a reporter for San Francisco Standard, got great insider news. His Niners source told him that the franchise is preparing for a “go for broke” season. They will go all-in for the DE to complete their rebuild. Myles Garrett is signed to a 5-year $125 million contract with the Browns till 2026. But they restructured his contract.

His base salary for 2025 is only $1.25 million. If the Browns trade him before June 1, the salary hit they take would be $36.2 million, but it drops to $14.8 million post that date. So, their cap hit will be $21.4 million, in 2026. But there’s another factor here.

GM Andrew Berry has said that they will not trade Garrett. If that remains true, it puts the 49ers plan in jeopardy. They are already struggling.

49ers receive bad news amid Myles Garrett speculations

It’s a simple plan. To replicate the success, copy the plan! So, the Niners are working like the Eagles this offseason, trying to build lines of good players that work well together. But bad news has hit the O-line as receiver Deebo Samuel wants a way out. NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed that the WR wants out and told HC Kyle Shanahan, “I’m more than thankful for the Niners giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, but now I think it’s best that we find another team.” Now that is painful.

It hits them both ways. First, Myles Garrett has already said he wants to go to a serious title contender. And with a 12th-place finish in the NFC in the 2024 regular season, they don’t quite look like that team. Second, it puts an additional burden on them to find another O-line player as good as Samuel.

They played 2 Super Bowls against the Chiefs in recent years, in the 2019 and 2023 seasons. But couldn’t cross the finish line. And if other players follow suit, the Niners could be in more danger than they anticipated. The season’s over now, so they have the time to find the best combinations.
