Clapp’s contract breakdown

Will Clapp is retiring as a free agent after his most recent one-year, $1.42 million contract with the Saints expired. His eight-season NFL career began in 2018 after the Saints picked him in the seventh round. They signed him to a $2.53 million contract, carrying a $73,140 signing bonus and the same amount in guarantees. 

The contract was valid through 2021, but the team briefly released him in September 2020. They re-signed him to the practice squad a few days later. The center earned $750,000 through the new one-year deal. The following season, New Orleans offered another $920,000 contract when he hit free agency. 

After his four-year stint with the Saints, he joined the Los Angeles Chargers. They paid him $1.14 million that year, along with a $100,000 signing bonus and $100,000 each in guaranteed money. They re-signed him to a one-year deal in 2023, raising the overall amount to $1.18 million with the same breakdown as the previous season.

The Buffalo Bills secured him as a free agent in 2024 after the Chargers didn’t retain him. The $1.29 million contract carried a signing bonus of $75,000 and a guaranteed amount of $287,500. After a brief release, he returned to the Bills with a $1.21 million deal and stayed until the next offseason.
