Some news just hits differently, like the recent one in the football world, as Kyren Lacy, gone way too soon. A young man with a fire in his soul, a dream in his heart, and so much more life to live. You watch him on the field, and you’d see more than just a football player – you’d see passion, grit, and a smile that lit up the room. This is also evident in Lacy’s 2024 record, as the player was second on the team in catches (58) and yards receiving (866). Now that light’s been taken far too early, and his close ones, as well as NFL players, are paying him tribute.

According to the reports, on Sunday, Kyren Lacy crashed his car during a police chase in Texas. The authorities believe he took his own life at the age of 24. Now it sounds truly heartbreaking, as the athlete was already facing charges from a deadly car accident back in December. It was a lot. Maybe too much, as the football world and the fans joined in to mourn their loss. Russell Wilson was no stranger to it.

On Sunday, the New York Giants’ quarterback reposted LSU Football’s X post featuring Lacy’s black-and-white photos. The college tributed its player with a caption saying, “The LSU Football family mourns the loss of Kyren Lacy.” Sharing the same, Wilson wrote: “(heartbreak emojis) Praying for everyone. This hurts. Too young. (peace emojis).” Indeed, it hurts! Just 24, and the man is gone. The even worse part is he was just about to start his NFL career, as the young man was selected for this year’s draft.

Lacy’s attorney, Matthew Ory, first dropped this news in public. He said, “It is with profound sorrow that we confirm the tragic passing of Kyren Lacy. First and foremost, we ask that the public and the media give his family the space and time they need to grieve this unimaginable loss in peace.”

The young boy is survived by his father, Kenny Lacy, and mother, Kandace Washington. And now, this untimely demise has broken their hearts into pieces, leaving the entire nation to reel over the loss.

Besides Russell Wilson, other NFL players remember Kyren Lacy

Remember back in 2023 when Sports Illustrated pointed out something heartbreaking? They highlighted how, since 2021, around 44 current or former NFL players under the age of 50 had died. And here’s the part that really stings – most of those deaths were by suicide. Now, with Kyren Lacy’s tragic story, that number grows.

For Dak Prescott, this hit close to home. He’s been through this kind of pain before. In 2020, his older brother Jace took his own life. So when news broke about Lacy, Prescott didn’t stay silent. He opened up on social media, pleading, “Please! Ask 4 help. It doesn’t have to end that way! It takes all of us!

Not only him, even Tank Dell too joined the mourning with a simple and raw message – “S— crazy. Praying for the fam. That mental health be real—check on yo people.” They’re right. This pain doesn’t just stop with the person who’s gone – it ripples through teammates, families, and entire communities. Just look at Jayden Daniels!

The Commanders‘ QB took to Instagram, sharing memories of Kyren Lacy – their bond dating back to their LSU days. That Heisman season? Lacy was right there with Daniels, Malik Nabers, and Brian Thomas Jr. Always in the trenches together. Always family. That’s why after Lacy’s death, Daniels dropped a series of Instagram stories featuring his moments with the young man.

The QB appeared completely broken, as he shared a photo of himself with Lacy, Thomas, and Nabers: “It was always us 4 no matter what. We were front lines every time. Love you [brother]. Till next time… we gonna hold it down for you. U gonna live your dreams through us. Hope you at peace now. You always brought that energy and positivity no matter what… A real one! Showed love from the first day. Forever on your side.”

This loss cuts deep. And no doubt, it’s going to take the league, and everyone who knew Kyren Lacy, some time to even begin healing.
