All Lamar Jackson was looking for was a hearty late-night meal. Little did he know it would come with a side of yet another controversy.

“Ravens star QB Lamar Jackson has gone viral for looking extremely high while buying street food past midnight,” read an X post by sports writer Dov Kleiman. The accompanying video showed the Baltimore Ravens quarterback engaging in idle chatter with the food cart vendor, all smiles, visibly impressed by the two huge portions of what seemed like chicken and rice he’d picked up. Nothing about the video (except maybe the size of the portions) was extraordinary, and Jackson made sure he made that abundantly clear to his 1.2 million followers.
“Bra yall gotta stop engaging with these people 🤣 they like to lie when their views low that’s why I unfollow these weirdos,” he wrote on X, just minutes after Kleiman’s post had gone up.

It hasn’t been long since the QB made the headlines for shoving a Buffalo Bills fan who had hit him and DeAndre Hopkins on the helmet as the two were celebrating a touchdown at Highmark Stadium in Week 1.
Jackson later apologized to the fan during a media event, but didn’t shy away from slipping in some advice: “Just chill next time. You can talk trash and stuff but keep your hands to yourself.”

Whether the fan would get an opportunity to trash talk an NFL player is another question altogether, considering the league has banned him indefinitely from all its stadiums. Jackson, however, did not face any disciplinary action.

Either way, a fresh controversy is the last thing the two-time MVP needs right now, given he already has a lot on his plate—both literally and figuratively.

Head coach John Harbaugh had hoped that Jackson would return after missing two back-to-back games with the hamstring injury he picked up in the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. But on Monday, the QB did not participate in what was the team’s first practice after the bye week.

What’s even more concerning is that Harbaugh showed very little interest in talking about the 28-year-old when he was asked about a probable date for his return to practice.
“I think all the guys are working really hard to get back, I can tell you that,” Harbaugh said after Monday’s session. “We’ll see who’s back and who practices on Wednesday. I don’t want to comment on any individual guys.”
When he was asked if Jackson is expected to play Sunday, he simply said, “Same answer.”
Lamar Jackson’s return is vital for the Ravens
Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie and linebacker Roquan Smith also had to leave the Chiefs game with hamstring issues. Awuzie, however, returned more than a week ago, while Smith made it back on Monday. Left tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle), fullback Patrick Ricard (calf), and wideout Devontez Walker (oblique) also participated in the practice. But the one player who was missing was Lamar Jackson.
Meanwhile, the Ravens, now at 1-5, have matched their worst six-game start in 30 years of franchise history. In the two games that Jackson missed, backup Cooper Rush could only lead the offense to a total of just 13 points.
Since 2018, the Ravens have gone 74-32 (including playoffs) with Lamar Jackson under center. Their record without him during that same time span is a miserable 4-12, with an average of just 15.4 points a game.
With Baltimore’s margin for error shrinking every day—they have a 28.6% chance of making it to the playoffs, per ESPN Analytics—the importance of Jackson’s quick return to full fitness cannot be overstated.
The Ravens will take on the 4-2 Chicago Bears next at M&T Bank Stadium on October 26.
