The bond between Lamar Jackson and John Harbaugh has always appeared steady from the outside. Quarterback and head coach, both publicly backing each other through the swings of a long season. But a new Reddit post has stirred up a very different version of that dynamic.

A user who says she dated a Baltimore Ravens player for three years, and says the relationship ended badly, claimed she’d overheard more than a few conversations inside the building. According to her, some of Baltimore’s biggest names haven’t been aligned with Harbaugh for quite a while.

“Lamar (n most others) have wanted Harbaugh fired for years… have overheard many calls about this,” she wrote on Reddit.

Normally, a post like that gets deleted instantly. This one didn’t. The moderators confirmed they’d seen evidence verifying her identity and connection. So the story, at minimum, isn’t coming from thin air.

And that’s what makes it so surprising. You can understand the friction between a coach and certain players. It happens. But Lamar and Harbaugh have always projected a united front. Their stories even mirror each other in some ways.

Harbaugh wasn’t the coach many teams clamored for; Baltimore took a chance. Jackson wasn’t the quarterback the league fawned over; Baltimore trusted the talent.

“Back in my rookie season, he had faith in me to go out there and play. They put me out there, as a rookie with no games under (my) belt, to try to lead this team to the playoffs. And we end up going to the playoffs my rookie season. Just him having faith in me, that’s why I trust him so much,” Jackson had said about Harbaugh.

That makes this alleged behind-the-scenes tension all the more jarring. And the timing doesn’t help. With the Ravens slogging through an uneven season and frustration bubbling inside and outside the building, the noise around Harbaugh’s job security has never been louder.

Is John Harbaugh really on the hot seat?

For now, there’s no real sign that the Ravens are ready to pull the plug on John Harbaugh. But the numbers hanging over him are hard to ignore. Harbaugh is one of only 14 coaches in league history to work 200-plus games and win a Super Bowl with the same team. And among that group, only two have stayed in the chair longer without winning the Lombardi again.

Since Baltimore last reached the Super Bowl at the end of the 2012 season, the AFC landscape has shifted around them. Kansas City has been there five times. New England made four trips. Denver and Cincinnati each made one. The Ravens? They’ve had good teams, great rosters, and multiple seasons in which they were billed as contenders. Still nothing.

That’s the frustration simmering around the building. Seven playoff appearances since that title run, and not a single return to the big stage. Every year the expectations rise, and every year the season ends with the same familiar thud.

Now they’re sitting at 6–6, still in position to steady the season if they can get past Pittsburgh this week. The path to the postseason isn’t closed, but it’s tight, and everyone knows what’s at stake. Miss the playoffs entirely, or bow out early yet again, and the noise is only going to get louder. A chunk of the fan base is already there.
