“It’s an unfortunate situation.” Those words from a former Chiefs player hit hard who quite literally felt the tension brewing between his old teammates—Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. On Good Morning Football, the stage was set for a crazy discussion, hinting at some juicy drama brewing.

The interviewer pointed to QB Mahomes’ typically friendly demeanor and his surprising comments about wanting the Royals to lose. Entered ex-Chiefs WR Gehrig Dieter, who just didn’t hold back. He fired back, “These guys are big time haters.” Ouch! Dieter elaborated, saying, “Well, I like to talk a little bit and it’s unfortunate that the Yanks had to do what they had to do to the Royals.” It’s clear he feels passionately about this rivalry, especially after the Yankees took down the Royals in the ALCS.

Dieter got animated while recounting the wild games: “Last night’s games went back and forth. I had a feeling they were gonna go on a little run when class 8 came on. So, I’m getting the phone ready to FaceTime Trav. I’m going crazy in my house. And then I look up, and it’s a tied game. It’s not a good thing; I’m fighting a lot of battles out here for the Yanks.” You can practically see the chaos in his living room as he juggled fandom and friend loyalty!

As the ALCS shifted back to Cleveland for Game 3, the Guardians pulled off a hair-raiser in 10 innings with David Fry’s game-ending homer. This marked their first win in the best-of-seven series, pulling the Yankees’ lead to 2-1. Patrick Mahomes (who also owns a minority share of the Royals), stirred the pot when Kelce tweeted about the Guardians’ comeback.

Travis Kelce stands proud as a true Guardians fan

Travis Kelce’s all about that Guardians life—even if he doesn’t always wear the gear! The Chiefs’ TE relished the moment, but not without addressing the uproar over his choice of attire during Game 1 of the ALCS.

I’ve been a Cleveland sports fan my entire life,” he tweeted. “Make it back to countless games over the years, both Guards and Cavs, just to enjoy these memories with my friends and family, WIN OR LOSE!!… and I don’t wear Cleveland gear one time 😂 and all of a sudden I’m not a real fan?!… they’ll let you know I was there for the @CleGuardians.” While some questioned his commitment due to his lack of team swag at the game—attending with none other than Taylor Swift—the superstar wasn’t phased.

The three-time Super Bowl champ was clearly on-board, cheering passionately from the suite. Now, as the ALCS heats up with Cleveland’s comeback, Kelce continues to celebrate his hometown team with all the energy of a true die-hard fan.
