The Carolina Panthers have a quarterback issue because of multiple injuries. Bryce Young was sidelined in Week 8 due to a high ankle sprain. In his absence, Andy Dalton stepped in, where he completed 16-of-24 passes for 175 yards and one interception with no score and led the Panthers to an ugly 40-9 loss to the Buffalo Bills. To make things worse, the backup QB also suffered a right thumb injury.

The signs were clear: The Panthers needed a quarterback on the roster, and they just got the reinforcement. Carolina just placed offensive lineman Brady Christensen (who suffered a torn Achilles last week and had surgery this week) on injured reserve and used his spot to sign the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Mike White, off the practice squad.

The Panthers brought in White ahead of their Bills clash last week. The reason, however, was simple. The veteran was part of the Bills’ offense in the 2024 season and this offseason. However, the Bills cut ties with him on the roster-cutting day.

The 30-year-old then signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in September but was released earlier this month. Fast forward to now, and White is expected to add depth and experience behind Bryce Young in an injured quarterback room. White has appeared in 15 games so far, starting seven, and winning a couple of them all with the New York Jets.

In a what-if scenario where both Young and Dalton remain inactive for Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers, expect White to take snaps under center. Meanwhile, the Panthers have brought back the second-year defensive tackle Jaden Crumedy to the practice squad after waiving him earlier this week on Tuesday. On top of that, the Panthers also got good news on Young’s injury ahead of the Packers game,

Bryce Young actively participated in practice

The Panthers had both of their quarterbacks injured this week. However, one of them returned to the practice field on Wednesday. We’re talking about the team’s starting quarterback, Bryce Young, after he missed the Bills’ game on Sunday. The Panthers confirmed the news on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, head coach Dave Canales admitted that his starting QB “really wants to” play against the Packers on Sunday. However, the team has been mindful of Young’s health after he suffered an ankle injury.

“We had a little bit of a modified practice today, but he handled it, handled the load,” Coach Canales said of his quarterback. “Tomorrow we’ll push it again, and we’ll make a decision in the next couple of days.”

Additionally, the HC also revealed another injury update, noting that Dalton got injured in the first half against the Bills. Subsequently, the backup QB didn’t participate on Wednesday.

“He injured his thumb really early in the game,” the HC said of Dalton. “He was a stud, you know, he gutted it out and was able to be out there and allow us to finish the game that way. And it just really blew up on him after the game, and he got imaging on it through our process over the last couple of days. So we’ve got to see where he’s at going into this weekend and make decisions from there.”

That said, the Panthers are yet to announce who’ll run the offense against the Packers. Young? Dalton? Or White? We’ll see soon.
