A struggling offense and an injured roster aren’t the best combination. But that is exactly what the Green Bay Packers are currently suffering from. Both center Elgton Jenkins and wide receiver Romeo Doubs left the game against the Philadelphia Eagles due to injury, and unfortunately, head coach Matt LaFleur doesn’t have a positive update.

“It doesn’t sound promising,” the coach said during the post-game press conference when asked about Jenkins.

As per reports, he suffered a lower leg fracture on Monday and was carted off before halftime after Jordan Love rolled into Jenkins’ leg while the quarterback was being tackled. After being listed as questionable, the Packers ruled him out for the rest of the game. Now, coach LaFleur’s update has added to the mounting concern.

In his absence, the Packers will lean more on guard Sean Rhyan and offensive lineman Jacob Monk. As for Romeo Doubs, he sustained a chest injury following a Packers possession in the fourth quarter. Soon, he was spotted walking into the locker room. He was listed as questionable and did not return to the game. The severity of his injury is unknown.

LaFleur didn’t seem to have a clear update on Doubs. “I don’t have a ton of information right now. I just know that he was ruled out,” he said when asked about the 25-year-old.

Regardless, it was a big loss for the team. After all, Doubs recorded 8 receiving touchdowns in 2023 and 4 in 2024. In this season, he has already recorded 4 touchdowns, and that number was only expected to increase. When the team needs a bucket, it’s Doubs they depend on.

In case the injury is serious and the player needs time away, Christian Watson and Dontayvion Wicks will serve as Green Bay’s receivers.

However, Jenkins and Doubs have been injured at a time when the Packers’ offensive line has been hurt and damaged throughout the season. Think about left guard Aaron Banks and right tackle Zach Tom missing time.

There were turnover issues, and the Eagles’ defense was able to keep the Packers scoreless for three quarters. It seems that due to injured tight end Tucker Kraft’s absence, coach LaFleur changed his game plan by limiting the quarterback’s opportunities to throw in the game. Whether the change helped him or not is another debate. So, while he praised the defense, LaFleur called out the issues in the offense that need to be fixed.

“Unfortunately, there’s absolutely no moral victories in our sport,” he said. “But I was proud of our guys’ effort. I thought they battled for four quarters. Our defense was outstanding, and unfortunately, just too many mistakes offensively to overcome. If you hold good football teams to 10 points, you should win the football game in my opinion.”

The coach also addressed Love’s fumble.

The QB finished 20 of 36 passes for 176 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. However, he had one fumble during the second quarter. And Eagles’ outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips recovered the ball.

“I gotta go back and see it,” the coach said when asked about the ball.

“However, the guy is battling. It’s not for a lack of effort, obviously. He’d rather take a sack than fumble, but I know he’s trying to get rid of the football. It is what it is. It’s been very, very choppy as of late,” LaFleur said about the player.

In fact, the QB has also addressed his mistake during his interview.

“It all starts with taking care of the ball,” he said. “Turnovers are something that’s been hurting us in these close games. I’ve got to find ways to overcome that and keep being smart with the ball.”

The issue is a lack of pass catchers. Wide receiver Jayden Reed is on injured reserve, while wide receiver Matthew Golden was also unavailable. And LaFleur’s change in game plan speaks volumes on this issue.

Now, without Tucker on the offense, the Packers will look to avoid the same offensive struggles when they play against the New York Giants in Week 11.
