After 13 years with the team, the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line coach and run game coordinator, Jeff Stoutland, decided to step down from his role. As it turns out, that might not be the only loss for head coach Nick Sirianni’s O-line, as guard Landon Dickerson’s future is also up in the air.

“An offseason of significant change for the Eagles could include G Landon Dickerson’s uncertain future,” reporter Mike Garafolo wrote on X. “[Jeff McLane] mentions here Dickerson’s no certainty to return. I’ve heard some of the same. Only 27 and five years into his career, but his body has been through a lot. TBD.”

Landon Dickerson’s future has been a matter of concern since the Eagles’ season ended with a frustrating loss to the 49ers. While there is no immediate indication that his career is in jeopardy, insiders Ian Rapoport and Jeff McLane have noted that lingering injury concerns could impact his longevity and success in the sport – an unusual discussion for a player still so early in his career.

The past season was especially taxing for Dickerson and the Eagles’ offensive line. He underwent knee surgery during training camp and pushed to be ready for Week 1. Later in the year, he suffered a back injury against the Cowboys, and after returning, he was sidelined again with an ankle injury that forced him to miss the Eagles’ Week 5 matchup.

And that wasn’t all! Another ankle issue surfaced in Week 14, forcing Dickerson out for a portion of the game. Although he was able to return for the Eagles’ final drive of the third quarter, he evidently did not look too comfortable on the field.

Behind the scenes, Dickerson was managing pain on a near-weekly basis but continued to suit up whenever needed. That team-first mentality is certainly part of what defines his value to the Eagles, but it may also contribute to a difficult decision ahead, including the possibility of offseason surgery.

“Landon Dickerson didn’t get into all the injuries he dealt with this year, other than to say ‘a lot,'” reporter Dave Zangaro said. “He said he kept playing through them because he didn’t want to let the team down. Doesn’t know if he’ll need offseason surgery.”

What will Nick Sirianni do about Landon Dickerson?

After everything Landon Dickerson’s body has been through, it is highly likely he will consider offseason surgery. However, that could place at least part of his 2026 season in question. That uncertainty is far from ideal for the coaching staff who are looking to work on the offensive line before the next season begins.

From a roster-building perspective, moving on from Dickerson isn’t a practical solution either. He signed a four-year, $84 million extension in 2024 that made him the highest-paid guard in NFL history at the time, with $50 million guaranteed, including a $20 million signing bonus.

The only scenario that offers flexibility is a trade, but even that won’t do the Eagles much good. A deal would free up roughly $4 million in cap space while leaving about $5 million in dead money. Financially, retaining him remains the more sensible option despite the injury concerns.

When healthy enough to stay on the field, Dickerson performs at a high level. Even while playing through multiple injuries, he allowed just five sacks and seven quarterback hits across 835 snaps, over the course of the season. A clearer picture is expected once Dickerson and the team determine whether surgery is the best path forward.
