The Steelers’ QB position still remains undecided! And, head coach Mike Tomlin knows it. As Aaron Rodgers still remains undecided on his NFL future, the Steelers are looking towards Plan B. And as per NFL rumors, it is none other than Kirk Cousins. The Aaron Rodgers saga still remains unresolved, as he had sought to join the Minnesota Vikings in a one-year Super Bowl sprint, which the Vikings declined. Amidst this, Mike Tomlin is shifting his attention to a contingency plan worth $293 million.
As per the latest X post, NFL Rumors have stated, “#Steelers are keeping an eye on #Falcons Kirk Cousins situation as they wait on Aaron Rodgers.” Tomlin and GM Omar Khan are keeping tabs on Atlanta’s curious handling of another veteran QB, Kirk Cousins. And the NFL insider Albert Breer also ignited the discussion, adding, “The other team I’d pay attention to is the Pittsburgh Steelers if Aaron Rodgers decides not to go there.” It is prompting a “marriage of convenience” between Cousins and a Steelers roster that is looking forward to QB stability.
However, there is one massive hurdle. Cousin’s contract is airtight through 2025 with staggering numbers. Atlanta can’t just walk away, but they may consider a trade with the Steelers. Cousins, 36, had signed a 4 year, $180M deal ($100M guaranteed) with Atlanta in March last year.

But, it was before the Falcons drafted Michael Penix Jr. in the first round. Now as he plays behind a rookie, the Steelers may give him the golden ticket. And Mike Tomlin? He’s got eyes on a $293M problem (Rodgers + Cousins combined earnings) that might just become his solution.

Vikings decline Rodgers’ offer as Mike Tomlin suffers a QB deficiency
Aaron Rodgers made the Minnesota Vikings an offer, the one they could only dream of five years ago. That is, one last shot at a Lombardi Trophy. It comes in addition to the mentorship for rookie J.J. McCarthy, who missed his rookie year because of a torn meniscus. As per USA TODAY and SI’s Albert Breer, Rodgers approached the Vikings earlier this offseason as he offered a one-year campaign to bring the championship back to Minnesota.

But the Vikings have declined. It is because they have decided to go all in for the 22-year-old McCarthy. They handed the keys to McCarthy, their 2024 top-10 pick, who has finally recovered. And as Pittsburgh is watching this saga unfold, their QB situation is more or less getting worse.

What’s your perspective on:
Can Kirk Cousins be the savior the Steelers need, or is he just another costly gamble?
Have an interesting take?
The Steelers QB room is completely empty. They are just working with Mason Rudolph, who is back from the Titans, and Skylar Thompson, a Dolphins castoff. No Justin Fields. No Russell Wilson. And unless Rodgers shows up next week, Pittsburgh’s QB room will remain vacant. If Rodgers signs somewhere else, or just decides to hang it up, the Steelers are out of time. They need to find a new plan pronto, or they can kiss their season goodbye.
