The NFL offseason is like a late-night diner menu—full of greasy surprises and half-baked drama. In New York, the Giants are stirring the pot, lurking in the shadows of their NFC East rivals. Imagine the Eagles, fresh off a Super Bowl parade, casually sipping victory Gatorade while their division foes plot a heist. The Giants, armed with grit and a quarterback named Russell Wilson, are hungry for a missing piece. But what if that piece is hidden in Philly’s treasure chest? Could a divisional foe’s star player soon be donning Giants blue?
The Giants have quietly inquired about trading for Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. Goedert, 30, is entering the final year of a $57 million deal and remains a red-zone nightmare (24 career TDs). Philly isn’t rushing to deal him, but with a $11.7 million cap hit, they’re listening…
The Eagles don’t need to trade him, but they’re not hanging up the phone. For New York, snagging Goedert would give Russell Wilson a proven weapon—and stick it to a rival. Talk about a Philly cheesesteak slap! Besides, Goedert has tormented Big Blue for years.

In 11 career matchups, he’s racked up 36 catches for 383 yards—more damage than a Jersey Turnpike fender-bender. Last season, despite battling injuries, he delivered clutch playoff moments, including a 55-yard showcase in January. He’s the kind of player who thrives when the lights are brightest. For the Giants, adding Goedert would be like stealing the Liberty Bell—bold, brazen, and borderline sacrilegious. But why would Philly trade him within the division?

Simple: The Giants are NFC East cellar-dwellers (3-14 in 2024). Sending Goedert there is like handing your little brother a Nerf gun—he’ll make noise, but no real threat. Meanwhile, Eagles GM Howie Roseman remains coy.
“We try to do as much as we can at any position in free agency to try to make sure that we’re not in a position where there are needs,” Roseman said. “There’s always going to be areas that we’re looking to improve, and honestly, that’s going to happen even the day after the draft.” So, if the price is right, Goedert’s gone. And while Goedert rumors simmer, Russell Wilson’s tenure in New York feels as stable as a house of cards in a wind tunnel.

Russell Wilson’s uncertain future and a QB conundrum
The Giants are hedging their bets, privately working out QBs Shedeur Sanders, Jalen Milroe, and Tyler Shough ahead of the draft. “Is he [Sanders] possibly the third overall pick where they’re sitting at? Maybe,” said ESPN’s Peter Schrager. “Does this also mean they can maybe trade back into the first round if they take his teammate Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter with the third overall pick? I would say that’s more likely.” Wilson, 36, is on a one-year deal, and the Giants hold the No. 3 pick—a prime spot to draft his successor.
But here’s the thing. Scouts are split on Sanders. Some see a savvy pocket passer; others see a project. “I think he’s got some support within the organization, and I think others have some questions,” said Adam Schefter. If New York passes on a QB at No. 3, they could trade back into Round 1 for Sanders. Either way, Wilson’s 2025 season is a trial by fire—win now, or hand over the keys. Besides, the Giants’ offseason hinges on two moves.

Securing Goedert to maximize Wilson’s arm and drafting a QB to secure tomorrow. It’s a high-stakes poker game, and GM Joe Schoen is all-in. As philosopher Sun Tzu once said, “Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory.” For New York, victory means balancing today’s needs with tomorrow’s dreams.
So, will the Giants steal Goedert and fuel Wilson’s resurgence? Or will they draft a QB and let the future unfold? In the words of The Godfather’s Michael Corleone: “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.” And the NFL offseason always does.
