Ever since the time started to bring in some fresher talent, a silent war was brewing between the Cowboys LB, Micah Parsons, and the owner, Jerry Jones. The player asserted his belief in needing more players, claiming he couldn’t see others being aggressive while they watch. It was a demand growing up for long in the locker room. But Jones didn’t budge. He rarely does. His principle was the long-standing one. Wait patiently and poach if someone’s available. That’s his trademark style.

However, amid all this, they also have to sign an extension with Parsons. The first-round pick (12th overall) on the 2021 NFL Draft signed a 4-year, $17 million rookie contract. But with massive performances, he has shown his mettle. That has kind of forced the franchise to offer a record-breaking extension. When he hit the free agency on Wednesday, March 12, Micah Parsons gave a subtle message to the Cowboys front office that was “It’s my time 🦁.” There’s an underlying agenda here. He could land somewhere else if he doesn’t get what he wants.

There’s additional pressure on Jerry Jones. They traded RB Rico Dowdle to the Carolina Panthers. It has given him $42.5 million in cap space. But Micah Parsons is eyeing a deal equal or greater than the Browns DE Myles Garrett. He had a crazy reaction when the news broke out: “Lol yooo wtf.” For those of you who don’t know, the 2023 DPOY signed a 4-year $160 million deal with $123.5 million guaranteed.

It made him the highest-paid non-QB in league history. Parsons is no less of a talent. In 4 years, he has qualified for Pro Bowl each season. The linebacker has played 63 games (all starters) and recorded 9 defended passes, 9 forced fumbles, 52.5 sacks, 256 tackles (172 solo), and 112 QB hits. Those are some insane numbers.

While everyone is waiting for Jerry Jones to reveal his offer, the Cowboys are filling up other positions. It might give them plenty of options to choose from in the season.

Jerry Jones is also trying to fill in other spaces with free agency veterans. On Wednesday, the Cowboys signed Bills’ CB Kaiir Elam. Additionally, they got the 6th round pick in 2025 in exchange for a 2025 5th round pick and 2026 7th-round pick. It is like a competition of veterans for the starting roles.

Ekam will have to compete with 2 CBs in the America’s Team. The first is DaRon Bland, who played 7 games last year after missing 10 because of the stress fracture. The second one, Trevon Diggs, started off well with 2 interceptions in 2024. But he also underwent a knee injury. His return is not specified yet. There could be competition in the coming draft as well. The Cowboys pick 12th and 44th in the draft.

Micah Parsons will also face some heat as the franchise is interested in Von Miller or Amari Cooper. Both have expressed a desire to play for the franchise and own homes in the area. While his (Parsons’s) place is solid, there are no chances out of bounds if they don’t get what they want. A Super Bowl!
