Essentials Inside The Story

  • Star receiver pauses side hustle as NFL workload collides with media grind
  • Packed offseason schedule causes a delay for the fans
  • Local radio floats shocking trade idea involving Chiefs defender

You know you’ve made it when your side hustle needs a rain check. Amon-Ra St. Brown hit that moment this week. The Detroit Lions wide receiver had to pump the brakes on his popular off-field venture, forcing a rare schedule shift that caught fans off guard.

The latest episode of Amon-Ra’s The St. Brown Podcast faces a 24-hour delay. While St. Brown’s brief statement didn’t offer any explanation for the change in scheduling, the fact that he was forced to take this decision spoke volumes about the chaos of managing an NFL career while building a media brand on the side.

St. Brown launched the podcast alongside his brother Equanimeous during the 2024 season. Since then, it has become a must-listen material for Lions fans hungry for real inside talk. The brothers bring authentic chemistry and the kind of unfiltered takes you don’t get from corporate PR-approved soundbites. They’ve brought on teammates, debated playoff scenarios, and St. Brown even used airtime lobbying to get Jameson Williams on the show.

This podcast’s success came a little after St. Brown’s on-field evolution. Since entering the league in 2021, he’s transformed from a fourth-round pick into Detroit’s most reliable offensive weapon. His 2025 campaign with 117 receptions for 1,401 yards and 11 touchdowns is a good example of this.

The player ranked fifth in both catches and yards while tying for second in scores. Those stats require relentless work, even when the season ends. This week, the podcast schedule seems to have gotten in the way of that.

To be fair, a one-day delay isn’t a crisis. But for a star who’s maintained weekly consistency, it shows how packed his calendar really is. While St. Brown was quietly adjusting his content calendar, Detroit sports radio was creating an entirely different kind of content problem, one with his name at the center.

Local radio’s shocking Amon-Ra St. Brown trade proposal

Rico Beard, co-host of 97.1 The Ticket’s afternoon drive show, didn’t just entertain a caller’s trade idea, he endorsed it. Ship St. Brown to the Kansas City Chiefs for their 31-year-old defensive tackle, Chris Jones, was the proposal. Beard’s response?

“I’d do it,” Beard said. “It would hurt, but you’ve got Issac TeSlaa here, you’ve got Jamo (Jameson Williams) here. You could go find a veteran wide receiver if you need them. Yes, and you’re adding Chris Jones to go along with Aiden Hutchinson. I’d do that trade in a heartbeat.”

Despite St. Brown having spent his entire NFL career at Detroit, Beard was eager to let their star WR leave the NFC North for the AFC West.

But the proposal ignores stark realities. Jones posted a career-worst 70.5 PFF grade in 2025. Trading a 26-year-old offensive centerpiece for a 31-year-old defensive tackle in decline doesn’t sound like roster management. Instead, it feels like desperation disguised as strategy.

Jeff Riger, filling in alongside Beard, immediately pushed back. Lions fans responded with even less restraint, blasting the take across social media.

For Amon-Ra St. Brown, though, these noises matter very little. He’s building something bigger for himself than trade rumors, one podcast episode at a time, even if one episode comes a day later than planned.
