Travis Hunter traded the football field for the front seat of a patrol car this week, and what he witnessed left him uncharacteristically quiet. Riding along with Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters, the Jaguars star got an up-close look at a traffic stop that turned into something far bigger than routine police work, and by the end of it, Hunter had an important takeaway.

“See kids, don’t do drugs,” Hunter said. “Don’t do drugs, man. It’s not worth it. Not worth it going to jail.”

Travis Hunter got out of the car at one point during the stop, and what he saw next was pretty eye-opening. Police had just pulled a massive bag of drugs off someone, and we’re talking w*ed, m*th, coc***e, and fent***l all in one haul. Hunter couldn’t help himself.

“They done caught a kingpin,” he said.

Police clearly treated the bust as a big deal, and having Hunter there just added more eyes to the whole thing.

This wasn’t actually the first time Hunter and Sheriff T.K. Waters crossed paths in public either. Back at the end of July, Jacksonville Fire Rescue posted on Facebook about running into Waters, a member of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and Hunter, who was wearing a police vest at the time.

Travis Hunter has discussed the impact of drug-related issues within his family. His father, Travis Hunter Sr., is currently on probation stemming from drug and gun charges tied to a November 2023 arrest.

The elder Hunter had been arrested during a traffic stop in Palm Beach County and served a 90-day jail sentence. Because of that, he wasn’t able to be there when his son won the Heisman Trophy in December.

Hunter reflected on what it meant.

“From seeing probably two games in high school to seeing me on TV every weekend and coming to see me, that means so much to me,” he said. “I know you wanted to be here, and you can’t. But trust me, I got you.”

He was actually granted special permission to attend the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay.

With the court’s approval, his father made it to Green Bay and watched Hunter get picked second overall by the Jaguars. Now heading into his second NFL season, Hunter is looking to build on a rookie year that was cut short after just seven games.
