In May, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Travis Hunter married Leanna Lenee at The Barn at Faith Farms in Tennessee. Although the couple has been together since 2022, there has always been a sense of mystery about Leanna’s true background and origins.

Leanna, who is a social media content creator, discussed her nationality while getting ready for the Jaguars’ second preseason game. She opened up about her lifestyle, explaining that growing up in a military family meant constantly moving around, which led to a fan asking in the comments whether she holds American or British citizenship.

“I have dual citizenship,” Leanna replied in her TikTok video.

Hunter’s wife was born outside London, England, in November 2001. Her father is of Filipino and Mexican heritage, while her mother is Black. The content creator spent most of her childhood in England until she was 10, before moving to the United States.

“I think all military children deal with is not knowing where you’re from. When people ask you where you’re from, do you mean like where I was born, where I lived the longest, where I grew up, where I went to elementary school, where I went to high school? You don’t know where you’re from.

“When people ask me that, I don’t say England even though that’s where I was born. I just say Savannah because that’s where I lived the longest,” Leanna said in the video.

After coming to the United States, Leanna lived in Savannah, Georgia. That’s where she met Hunter.

The Jaguars wide receiver was still in high school, while Leanna was 19. Hunter made the first move, and the two started texting for more than two months. They made their relationship official in March 2022 during a trip to Hawaii.

Being from an Army background, Leanna explained how she had to change “10 different schools in 12 years.” She constantly learned to adjust to new places, people, and different ethnicities. That is why she now says she has the skills to enter a room and make friends.

“I don’t have a group of friends that I was able to have forever because I was always moving, but on the flip side of that, I have friends everywhere. I have friends across the world. I have friends still in Europe,” she said.

But there is one thing the couple is still unsure about.

“Being a military brat, the thought of being somewhere forever is so scary to me. Me and my husband talk about where we’re going to build our forever home, and that freaks me out. Like being somewhere for life, that is a huge commitment. What if I get tired of living there?” Leanna added.

Moving around so much also shaped how Leanna experienced identity and race. She revealed that she “never experienced any race or racism until I moved to America.” Living on military bases offered some protection from the outside world, but it also meant that her experiences changed whenever her family moved to a new location.
