When Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift finally said their vows at Madison Square Garden in July, the celebration brought together plenty of familiar faces from the Chiefs’ world. But one absence quietly stood out. Kicker Harrison Butker wasn’t there, making him the only player on the team’s roster who reportedly missed out on the invitation. Interestingly, a member of the Chiefs’ ownership group was absent, too.

It was Kansas City Chiefs co-owner Dan Hunt. Speaking to CBS News Texas, he confirmed he did not receive an invitation to the wedding.

“I did not get invited to Taylor Swift’s wedding; apparently, I don’t sing well enough to get invited,” Hunt said, per CBS News Texas. “That’s probably been my second biggest question of the entire summer.”

He further confirmed he hadn’t spoken to Kelce since the wedding.

“I have not. My brother was there, and I talked to him, and he said, look, it was really special, and it was really unique, and we are all so happy for him.”

Hunt is also the president of FC Dallas, the Major League Soccer club founded by his late father, Lamar Hunt. And that is where the CBS interview came into play: the conversation was centered on the possibility of bringing Swift and Kelce to an FC Dallas match.

“I’m working on it,” Hunt said. “You know, we’ll have to see. It’ll probably be after Travis retires, but they’re always welcome down here.”

It goes without saying that Taylor Swift’s presence at the Chiefs’ game benefited the team, and FC Dallas could capitalize on the same. In fact, the team’s chairman and CEO, Clark Hunt, confessed the same in 2025.

“From the day that she walked into our stadium, it opened up a new fan base force,” Hunt had mentioned. “She has a tremendous global fan base, mostly young women and girls. And so many of them have now embraced the Kansas City Chiefs.”

The wedding drew around 1,000 guests, including Patrick Mahomes, Jason Kelce, Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman and Greg Olsen among the football figures in attendance. Hunt was not among them despite his close professional ties to Travis through the Chiefs organization.

Then, there was Charles Barkley, who was invited but declined, telling 97.5 The Fanatic, “I don’t go to weddings or funerals.”

Kelce’s longtime friend, Will Compton, expressed surprise at not receiving an invitation. Former Tennessee Titans lineman Taylor Lewan had the same initial thought.

“Going into the weekend, I thought, ‘Oh, good. Didn’t get an invite,'” Lewan said in a July episode of his podcast Bussin’ With the Boys. “Checked my AOL account, reactivated that. No invite in there. And I was just making sure.”

So, it seems quite a lot of people weren’t invited. The timing of Hunt’s comments is notable because Kelce has only recently started speaking publicly about the wedding himself. At Chiefs training camp, he called the celebration the best night of my life.” He also thanked everyone who came to celebrate with them.

For Hunt, though, there does not seem to be much bitterness about missing the guest list. He spent much of the conversation praising Kelce, calling him one of the most fun individuals I’ve ever been around in my life.”

And while he may not have made it to the wedding, Hunt is still hoping to see the newlyweds in Dallas someday. He agreed that Taylor Swift’s busy schedule could make the visit difficult, but not impossible.

“A match and coming to Toca Social would be fun,” Hunt concluded.

Travis Kelce is focusing on football once again

While the wedding is all done, Kelce has decided to return to the NFL for season 14. And so far, he has been enjoying training camp.

“I still got a lot of love for this game. I still think I can go out and play at a high level,” Kelce said on Wednesday. “I want to go out there and prove to myself that I can play at a better level than last year. I think that’s the biggest thing for me.”

Three Super Bowl rings. Four first-team All-Pro selections. Eleven Pro Bowls. By any measure, he has already built a career most players can only dream about.

There isn’t much left for him to prove, but that has never really been the point. The love of the game is what keeps him going. And now, he can only hope this season tells a very different story from the disappointment the Chiefs endured in 2025.
