Before the fall, Burns had already stacked up four tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, two passes defended, and even a QB hit. His energy was fueling the Giants’ defense, but the injury brought an uneasy silence.

Still, there was a bit of relief. Burns was able to walk off on his own, which gave Giants fans hope. Yet, there was no immediate word from the Giants. That silence kept everyone uneasy. The defense felt unsettled in the minutes that followed, and Chiefdom could sense it. Losing one of their top dogs, even briefly, rattled New York.

Luckily for New York, the scare didn’t drag on. Burns rejoined the defense before halftime, and the relief was obvious. The linebacker finished the night with five solo tackles, an assist, and a sack against Mahomes. But even with his return, the Giants couldn’t flip the result.

Chiefs beat the Brian Burns’ Giants 22-9

The City of Fountains finally saw a win on Sunday night as the Chiefs took down Big Blue 22-9 at MetLife Stadium. Patrick Mahomes connected on 22 of 37 passes for 224 yards. His highlight came in the fourth quarter, when he fired a 33-yard strike to Tyquan Thornton on the run.

That play set up Kareem Hunt’s short touchdown punch that sealed the game and sent Chiefdom home happy.

With the victory, the Chiefs (1-2) dodged their first 0-3 start since 2011. That was two years before Andy Reid arrived and changed the franchise’s story with three Super Bowl trophies and multiple trips back to the big stage.

On the other side, the Giants dropped to 0-3. Russell Wilson struggled badly, finishing with 160 yards on 18 of 32 passing and two interceptions. The crowd even chanted, “We want Dart!” after his second pick. Jaxson Dart saw the field, but every snap was a handoff. The rookie still hasn’t thrown a pass.

Meanwhile, Mahomes turned 30 this week and stayed in the pocket more than usual. Isiah Pacheco carried the ground load with 45 yards on 10 carries.

For New York, rookie Cam Skattebo kept them afloat with 121 scrimmage yards and a rushing score. He handled the workload alongside Devin Singletary after Tyrone Tracy left with a shoulder injury in the first quarter.

Still, the Chiefs’ defense made the difference. Malik Nabers was targeted seven times but managed only two catches for 13 yards. The secondary clamped him down. Now, the Giants face Week 4 with no wins and a season already in big trouble.
