If the Giants are still looking to draft a quarterback. Because let’s be real—back in 2019, they had an option to draft Dwayne Haskins, who most thought was the better choice. But nope. The Big Blue used their No. 6 pick on Daniel Jones, and you could almost hear the collective confusion from analysts and fans alike.

Jones’ stint in New York was marred by inconsistent performances, a lack of offensive support, struggling O-line, frequent coaching changes, and injuries. You name it, and you’d find Jones struggling with those issues. The result? Well, the Giants’ draft history left the front office cautious, as they aim to avoid repeating the past mistakes in their current QB evaluations.

Fast forward to now, and despite signing not just one but two vets (Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston), the New York team is in pursuit of a rookie QB. On Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Giants are hosting Shedeur Sanders for one last workout session before the NFL draft.

“Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders will hold one last private workout Thursday in Boulder, Colorado, for a contingent of officials from the New York Giants. Some final intrigue leading into next week’s NFL Draft in Green Bay,” Schefter wrote in his ‘X’ post. Well, that’s something worth noting. Because let’s be real—lately, rumors have linked Shedeur to teams like the Cleveland Browns (because Deshaun Watson is uncertain to return) and the New Orleans Saints (with Derek Carr’s shoulder injury concerns).

But here’s where things get interesting. Just a few weeks ago, it seemed like the Giants were all but set on bypassing a QB in favor of adding talent to other positions. Say wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter or linebacker Abdul Carter. Fast forward to now, and suddenly the Giants are out here throwing a major plot twist into the QB conversation.

The Giants’ interest in Sanders has been clear since last fall. They’ve been at nearly every Colorado game, and to top it off, both head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen were spotted meeting with Sanders at the Shrine Bowl, the combine, and the Buffaloes’ pro day. With all these meetings, it’s safe to say they’re serious about the possibility of adding him to their QB room with No. 3 pick—unless there’s another reason behind the private workout session.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Shedeur Sanders the answer to the Giants' QB woes, or just another risky gamble?

Have an interesting take?

The Giants have a disagreement on draft decision for Shedeur Sanders?

We’ve top two quarterback prospects in this year’s class. On one side, there’s Cam Ward who’s expected to join the Titans as their No. 1 overall pick. But then there’s Shedeur, who’s on a tour to visit every QB needy team. The Browns, the Raiders, and now the Saints as well. Now that the Giants are hosting a private workout session for him, there’s just one big question looming over everyone’s heads—what’s really behind this session?

Right after Schefter reported that the Giants are having a session with Sanders at Boulder, ESPN’s insider Mike Tannenbaum noted, “When this happens so late in the process either there’s a big disagreement in their building on their evaluation or their reacting to new information.” This means either the Giants are not sure whether drafting Shedeur at No. 3 is a good decision or they’ve probably learned something new that’s making them reconsider their draft plans.

See it this way: despite signing Wilson and Winston, they’re desperate to draft a long-term option. And Shedeur Sanders is projected as one of the top 2 QB prospects in this year’s class. However, if we give it a closer look, the gap between him and Cam Ward (top QB prospect), is wide. On one side, Ward is your full package of arm strength and playmaking abilities. On the other side—Shedeur is a completely different picture. The guy lacks elite arm talent and athleticism. And oh, the size for an NFL QB as well.

To top that off, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky believes that half of Sanders’ passes are super short, like under 5 yards. That means Shedeur is one of the hardest QBs to evaluate if the NFL scouts are looking to draft him. Hence, the Giants probably want to evaluate the QB before making a final decision on him. After all, they just don’t want to repeat what happened with Daniel Jones.
