With the rookie duo of QB Jaxson Dart and RB Cam Skattebo, the New York Giants found a new life this season. During their Week 6 matchup against the defending champions Philadelphia Eagles, the duo was unstoppable. The Giants indeed had a huge win, but it didn’t come without a price.

At the 12:13 mark in the 4th quarter, QB Jalen Hurts and his team lined up on a 1st and 10 down. Hurts darted the ball to his left to TE Dallas Goedert (jersey number 88). Giants safety Tyler Nubin came forward to tackle him, grabbed him by the waist before taking him to the ground. The referees didn’t call out the banned ‘hip drop’ tackle. But the NLF monitoring team fined the player $10,324 under the ‘Unnecessary Roughness’ category.

Though it’s a huge amount, it’s still less than the listed fine amount. First offense is fined $17,389, and repeated offenses escalate to $23,186. The Giants were playing it safe since the last 3 weeks and did not get any fines between weeks 3 and 5.

The NFL fined two New York Giants players in Week 2. The league fined offensive tackle James Hudson III $12,172 for ‘Unnecessary Roughness.’ He was flagged four times on the team’s opening drive, including two personal fouls, although head coach Brian Daboll said one of the flags was a mistake. Linebacker Brian Burns was also fined, receiving $11,593 for taunting under the ‘Unsportsmanlike Conduct’ category. Burns was not flagged during the game, but the NFL reviewed his actions in the third quarter and fined him.

Giants vs Broncos: rookies’ toughness against defensive power

The AFC West vs the NFC East matchup at Mile High this Sunday (October 19) will be a battle of rookies’ toughness against the defense. Dart has been impressive on the ground, becoming only the third QB (the other two are Eagles’ Jalen Hurts and Ravens’ Lamar Jackson) since 1950 to rush for 50+ yards in each of his first three career starts.

He leads all quarterbacks with 30 carries for 167 yards since taking over as a starter in Week 4. The Giants’ offense has also been quick out of the gate, scoring 24 points on their first possession, tied for second-most in the NFL. But the Broncos have everything to counter the double threat.

For the Broncos, their defense has been dominant, recording 30 sacks in just six games, the most by any team this early in a season since the 2013 Chiefs. Seven Broncos players have more than 1 sack, the most in the league, while their own quarterback protection has allowed only six sacks, second-fewest in the NFL. Interestingly, both of Denver’s losses came on game-winning field goals as time expired, and both were on the road.

However, Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is still preparing for the QB-RB duo. In simple words, they have impressed him. “The quarterback is making great plays with his legs and his arm. He’s given them a reason to play hard. And the runner, man, he is old school, runs behind his pads, he’s breaking tackles, he’s confident,” the DC said ahead of the Week 7 matchup.
