Amid an injury-riddled wide receiver room, the New York Giants opened the new month of the year by hosting four wide receivers for a workout on Monday. And by the end of the process, New York has signed three of them to the roster. The Giants first brought back Odell Beckham Jr., and then signed Braxton Berrios. And now, the team has added another veteran receiver to the depth chart.

Per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Giants are signing former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster following Monday’s workout. Smith-Schuster joins New York after concluding his second stint with Kansas City, where he spent the past couple of seasons.

A former second-round pick, Smith-Schuster spent the first five seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers after the franchise selected him with the 62nd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. His best season in Pittsburgh came in 2018, when he earned his first Pro Bowl selection after recording 111 receptions for 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns.

Following the 2021 season, Smith-Schuster signed with the Chiefs for his first stint in Kansas City. He finished that year with 78 catches for 933 yards and three touchdowns during the regular season. He also delivered for them on the biggest stage. In the Super Bowl LVII game against the Philadelphia Eagles, JuJu hauled in seven receptions for 53 yards during the second half, helping Kansas City record a 38-35 win over Philly.

He then had a one-year stint with the New England Patriots, after which the 29-year-old receiver returned to Kansas City, where he spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Across three years with the Chiefs, Smith-Schuster appeared in 47 regular-season games and totaled 129 receptions for 1,509 yards and six touchdowns.

Now that he is heading to the Giants, Smith-Schuster will reunite with former offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, who held that role during all three of his seasons in Kansas City.

The signing of the 29-year-old comes amid significant injuries throughout the roster. Wide receiver Gunner Olszewski suffered a torn Achilles tendon last week. Nabers is currently rehabbing from two surgeries to repair a torn ACL and additional knee damage suffered during the 2025 season, with an uncertainty looming over his Week 1 return.

Darius Slayton, meanwhile, has also reportedly missed workouts recovering from sports hernia surgery. At this point, a wide receiver overhaul has become more of a necessity for the Giants than simply an effort to add depth. But Smith-Schuster is not the only addition to New York’s receiving corps, as the Giants have recently undergone a major overhaul at the position.

The Giants bolstered the WR unit for their second-year quarterback

Jaxson Dart showed flashes during his rookie season with the Giants. But at the same time, the young quarterback lacked playmakers around him, especially after losing top receiver Malik Nabers and leading running back Cam Skattebo to season-ending injuries. To ensure the QB has all that he wants going into his second season, the Giants have made sure to surround Dart with veteran playmakers in the wide receiver room.

The franchise decided to bring back Odell Beckham Jr. on a one-year deal, marking a homecoming for the 33-year-old receiver. A former first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Beckham spent his first five seasons in New York and won Offensive Rookie of the Year after posting 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns in his debut campaign.

But since leaving the Giants, where he recorded four 1,000-yard seasons in five years, Beckham has bounced around the league. He spent the 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins and sat out the 2025 season, when he served a six-game league suspension. Now, he is returning to the franchise that drafted him in the first place.

“Nothin was ever given to me I worked for everything I have. Never give up on urself. Home Team i’m back. Let’s get itttt,” he shared on social media after signing his one-year deal.

Besides Beckham Jr. and JuJu Smith-Schuster, the Giants have also added another veteran receiver in Braxton Berrios. Berrios joins New York’s receiver room after a couple of underwhelming seasons in which he appeared in just 10 games and recorded six receptions for 37 yards across two franchises. But considering the injuries within the Giants’ receiving corps, the veteran is expected to provide valuable depth for Jaxson Dart.
